Visme Review: 6 Benefits of Using Visme vs Canva

Visme Review: 6 Benefits of Using Visme vs Canva | City of Creative Dreams

If you are looking for an alternative to Canva then Visme is a great option! These platforms are are remarkably however today we are going to break down why you might choose Visme over Canva. Yes, I am going deep with the pros alongside the cons just for you!

What is Visme?

Let’s dive in a little deeper. First off, what is Visme? Visme is an all-in-one content creation tool where you can quickly create content with no design skills. Content like presentation slides, infographics, documents, printables, social media graphics, videos, and more.

6 things that I love about Visme

Are you ready for it? Here are 6 things that I love about Visme:

1. Professional Infographics

You know what, I have to give the win to Visme when it comes to making infographics. I create them for my website to spice up my wedding blog post articles or create extra-long Pinterest graphics.

With all honesty, I never really loved using the infographics on Canva because as easy as it was to use, I found that even though templates are abundant they lacked functionality.

Through Visme, I really love the fact that you can really customize a template and make it your own. My absolute favourite part is easily creating blocks and making sections larger or smaller on your infographic.

Lastly, I think having the indications of how long the infographic by indicating the length of a page on the side gives you perspective in case you were to print.

2. Presentation Slide Decks

I actually like how organized Visme presentation slides are. Once you click Add Slide, you have a drop-down of slides you can possibly use. I also love the fact that is organized into categories because that way I can see all the slides on testimonials or introductions all in one spot instead of having to dig for it.

However, I do wish there was a view all tab option on the side with all the other tools like Canva as well just for an added bonus of making life easier.

3. Animating Content

The experience using Visme is pretty cool. They have features like adding a call-to-action button but you are also able to animate any element. For animation, you can choose the entrance and the exit of the object or slide which I think is a very nice touch. I love that there is a variety of choices for the animation option compared to Canva.

Canva doesn’t allow you to animate as much as I would like, it is very basic in comparison. If you want more animation options through their program you will have to pay for them.

4. Custom Theme Colors

Sometimes thinking about what colours should go together, especially in an infographic can get a little tiring. I know that was a struggle for me. On Visme, I like that they have a section where they lay theme colours and you can customize it as well. It makes life so much easier if you want a quick and easy way to apply colour to your infographic.

5. Clear Division of Free & Premium

Lastly, this one really makes me happy. One of my biggest pet peeves is when premium items are mixed in with the free items. I find that it wastes so much time which is why I love the clear division Visme has on their platform.

No more will you have to be scrolling endlessly to see what is free and what is premium because all the free items are neatly at the top anything you have to pay for is at the bottom. Trust me, as simple as this may be for some, it makes a huge difference when you are trying to create.

6. Affiliate Program

Sorry Canva, but Visme’s affiliate program is better. Here is why. The first thing is that you can easily access it on your account with the affiliate login button that is conveniently located on your menu. It brings you to a dashboard.

Most importantly you can earn a 30% commission just by sharing the company with your audience or followers. I love that you get your own private dashboard with everything you need. Another thing that I think is super important is the personalized affiliate link that you can use on your website, blog, or social media channels.

Canva on the other hand only offers you a general friend referral link. Once someone signs up, you will receive a Canva credit that is basically a virtual token. These credits do not expire and you can use them to buy premium elements on their site like images, illustrations, and/or music.

6 Cons about Visme:

When it comes to reviewing things like products, programs or services, I like to be as honest as possible. I have always strived to share things that I actually enjoy using but since nothing is perfect, I make sure that you know the cons as well. Why? So you that you can best decide on if you want to use it for yourself. Here are a few cons about Visme:

1. Visme Dashboard

Visme’s dashboard is very easy to use and straight to the point. What is good about it, is that you can change your projects from gallery view to list view. As much as you have a folders section, you can’t access it if you are using a free version of this platform. The only way to create folders is if you are a part of their paid option.

Also, as a visual person, I find that there is no inspiration when I get on the page. Nothing there to really motivate you to create. This is where I love Canva’s Recommended for You section. It is the best way to see what new designs are there and helps spark creativity before heading to your designs.

2. Pricing Plans

The first thing is that the price for Visme is higher per month at $25.00 when Canva only charges about $13.00 per month. Furthermore, for the amount spent on the Standard option, I didn’t see anything on the list for me to purchase the full amount.

In Canva, you get more on their premium plan that actually intrigues you to want to pull out your credit card.

3. Free Plan

Sorry Visme, but Canva’s free plan is way better. I’ve been using Canva’s free plan for years and never had any trouble. The only thing that limited me was that they only offer one folder to organize your design in if you want to and this girl loves folders.

With Visme limiting only having up to 5 projects, it only makes me want to stay in Canva more because you get to make a boatload amount in comparison. I have a lot of designs created and I haven’t reached my limit yet.

4. PDF Option

Another thing that I didn’t enjoy is that you can only download the items as a PDF in their paid option. If you are using their free option, you can only really use JPEG format when downloading. This is where Canva strives because you are able to download your creations in PDF for both free and paid versions.

 5. No Record Feature

As much as you can completely customize everything in creating your slide presentations on Visme. The only thing missing is being able to record yourself.

These days, it is a huge bonus to be able to record on the same program as you are making your presentation slide. Canva currently has that feature and it is a game-changer especially for those who enjoy making presentations or webinars.

6. Has No Print Shop

Lastly, Visme does not have any physical print options such as ordering from a print shop. One of the things that I love about Canva is that they have a print shop. This is where you are able to print out flyers, posters, T-shirts, cards, mugs, stickers, labels, and canvas prints.

Personally, I bought business cards from them that I designed. I find that their service is fantastic, the cards turned out amazing and they shipped to my home pretty quickly. Check out my experience here – What I love About Canva Business Cards Awesome Review

 Final Thoughts

If you are wondering if you really need another platform to create presentations and graphics, I say it doesn’t hurt to have an alternative. At the end of the day, the choice is yours! It all depends on what you are looking forward to creating and if you need all the bells and whistles.

Personally, for me, I will be using Visme whenever I am making infographics because I enjoyed my experience with it but I am going to stick to using Canva’s free sign-up option for everything else. Tell me in the comments below, are you teach Visme or team Canva?
