I am sharing my top Favorite things to do in winter. Know it all! It is cold out there! Snow is on trees, on sidewalks and on cars which only means one thing. It is wintertime. Instead of being all bumped about all the snow, embrace it!
As a Canadian, I know a little something about winters because it comes around every year. You kind of have to learn to love winter at least a little bit here. I am going to let you in on a little secret, I love summer and spring. I am a warm climate kind of baby so I can catch a little winter blues from time to time. Mostly when it is March and I still see snow.
However, I don’t want any winter blues for you. With all the fun you can have there are really lots you can do to occupy yourself in the colder weather. Let’s dive into some winter activities to do.
Favourite Outdoor Winter Activities
Build a Snow Man
Who doesn’t love building a snowman? My childhood memories consist of creating awesome snowmen at school and on weekends in my backyard. All you really need is sticks, imagination, a scarf, a carrot for the nose and rocks to create buttons. There is really no wrong way to make it. Not only is this a fantastic activity for kids but also a great one to do with the family.
Ready? Set? Go! Jump onto your sled or snow tube and hold on because you are about to go on a ride. This is no longer for just kids because more than enough times I have seen parents get in on all the fun and bring out their inner child. The cold wind in the face sure brings a huge smile to feel the sled rush down the hill.
When you saw the snow untouched by footprints, what is the first thing you think about doing? Snow angels! The simple act of laying down and moving your legs and arms side to side is super fun and exciting. You get to leave a little bit of yourself on the fresh snow and have fun creating it. I can’t help but smile at the thought of it.
Snow Ball Fight
Take cover! Snowball fighting is a must in the wintertime. Who doesn’t love running around throwing snowballs around at your friends and family? Kids love it when they get the ultimate revenge with an unexpected snowball fight against their parents. It takes one snowball to really start this playful activity.
Favourite Winter Sweet Treats
Bake Cookies
Can you smell the cookies coming from the kitchen oven? I love all the sweet goodies that come from the kitchen. Friends bring all kinds of goodies to work and home that can get you to start unloosing your belt a bit. Cupcakes, cake, lots and lots of cookies. I love baking but love it better when someone else is baking the soft chewy cookies.
I am a hot chocolate girl all the way. Winter is not winter without some hot cocoa! Whether you are making it at home or having it made from your favourite coffee shop, you are still enjoying a hot drink on a cold day. There is something soothing about drinking hot chocolate that just makes cold days feel much better. My personal favourite is white hot chocolate made by Tim Hortons. Love!
Is it just me or do sugar cookies only come out during the holiday season? It is very unfair because I love sugar cookies over any cookie in the world. They are the best with the little colourful sprinkles… at least to me. All I can say is that I am not sharing these cookies with anyone. I kind of hold them hostage over at my home. How about you?
Popcorn! Not that you have to have this snack only in winter but I sure love having this warm snack the most when it is cold. I enjoy mine when I watch the Sound of Music which is my personal favourite movie of all time. I know the songs like the back of my hand and watch it every year when it snows so I need a buttery treat such as Skinny Pop. If you want to spice up your movie nights this winter then look no further than pairing some popcorn with a drink. Cheers to a new holiday tradition. Check out some ideas below!
Favourite At Home Winter Activities
Wear Cozy Sweater
Winter is all about sweaters. I mean what else is going to keep you warm in this type of weather? At work, you can catch me always wearing a cardigan, in all types of styles. At home, I like to kick it up a notch with fuzzy sweaters and hoodies with awesome saying. Even though I am an adult, I like to bring my inner child and have inspirational words on my sweaters. On a simple day, I will wear my favourite sweater for like three days.
Wear Fuzzy SocksÂ
Blue, striped or overall cute, I love them all. I can’t help but wear my soft, most cute and most fuzzy socks. Forget the slippers when you have many socks to choose from. It makes your feet look good while protecting them from the cold ground. Next, to fuzzy socks, there is a must for long socks when off to work. Both are my favourites.
Watch Snow Fall
I have to say that I love taking a moment to watch the snow fall from my bedroom window or when I am sitting on the passenger side of a car. It is at that moment when the snow is falling that the city seems to be at its most calm. Little white snowflakes taking over the city with their beauty and collecting on the ground so that we can have some winter activities. It is that snow globe kind of feeling.
Curl up in a Blanket
Along with all of my favourite things, winter could not be winter without curling up somewhere in your home with a blanket. My place can get cold so having a blanket is essential regardless since I don’t have a nifty fireplace in my home. If I did I would be right there next to the fireplace curled up in a blanket.
