What is the best bedtime routine for adults and how do you organize a sleep more restful? That is what we are going to talk about today. I love that sleep care is the new self-care because getting a night of more restful sleep is so important for adults and yet sometimes forgotten. However, that is not what I want from you. In fact, your bedtime routine should be a luxurious one.
Why is sleep beneficial? It helps with your overall body performance. When your body is performing its best, you are at your best. As a result, your memory will be better, your mood and even your productivity will all thrive at their best.
Here is how to make your bedtime routine or restful regimen perfect for maximum rest with a few activities.
Turn Your Bedroom into a Sleep Sanctuary as part of your Bedroom Routine (for Adults)
I believe your bedroom should be organized for the benefit of less stress. Why? Your bedroom is the sleep hub of your entire home so giving it the essential tools needed is a must. Here are a few essentials you need to make your bedroom a sanctuary:
- Comfortable Mattress – gone are the days we have to haul a large new mattress up flights of stairs. These days buying a mattress is so easy with the invention of mattresses locked airtight into a box. From raving reviews from Casper and Endy, but also Linespa you can’t go wrong.
- Bedding Sheets – the last thing you want is scratchy sheets or worn down sheets that bring you no joy. Get sheets that are not only soft but the type of fabric you don’t find sleeping on for a long time. Think cotton, silk or bamboo sheets.
- Blankets – who doesn’t love curling up to a warm blanket at night? I know I do! There are so many blankets out there to choose from like standard comforters, duvet with interchangeable duvet covers and weighted blankets to match your need.
Drink Tea Before Bed
Another way to help you start to unwind before bed and great natural sleep aid is night-time tea. For all you tea lovers out there, you know how refreshing it is to make a cup a tea. Why not also have a cup before bed as well! Turn on your kettle, grab your favourite mug and choose from any of these to give your body a sea of calmness:
Choose the Right Sleepwear
I wanted to make sure this was added to the list for my bedtime routine for adults article because you need to be comfortable when you sleep and it’s just as important as making your bedroom a sanctuary. It all has to do with the comfort of your body!
In all honesty, the right sleepwear truly depends on you and what you like. Some prefer nightgowns or long tees, PJ sets with patterns or cute saying on them or silk sleepwear for a more luxurious feeling. Regardless of what style you prefer, there is no wrong answer when it comes to what you love sleeping in.
Bedtime Exercise Routine
Did you know that you don’t only have to work out in the day but there is a bedtime workout? Don’t go getting out the weights because these before you sleep workouts are not so intense and more like stretches. Try out sleep yoga to get your body physically prepared for ultimate rest. Sleep Diffuser Blends
If you haven’t gotten yourself a diffuser yet, what are you waiting for? Diffusers are such a great machine to have in your bedroom because it diffuses essential oil scents that truly help your body. Don’t get me started on essential oil benefits because we could be here all day. What I will tell you is that sleep blends for your diffuser are worth trying out for yourself.
Here are some sleep blend ideas for diffuser:
- Lavender + Lemon
- Lavender + Cedarwood + Orange

Night Affirmations for Sleep
Our minds can feel like a highway sometimes with thoughts coming in left, right and center. This is why starting night affirmation for sleep can help focus your mind and makes a great asset to your bedtime routine for adults.
Your mindset is truly important and what you think before you go to bed can have an effect on you in the morning. Yes, I want you to think positive vibes to have a positive mind before you go to bed and that is where night affirmation for sleep comes in handy.
These are things you can think about or say out loud before bed to really put your mind in the best mind frame:
- “I am thankful for today.”
- “I am enough. I did enough.”
- “I did my best today”
Meditation
Bedtime routine for adults wouldn’t be complete without meditation. As much as I thought meditation wasn’t going to work for me in the beginning, I had to learn that like everything else it takes a little time to not think and to actually relax. This is why I love guided meditation in the mornings but the best part about meditation is that you can do it any time of day especially before bed.
I said it best in my article – How to Add Meditation to Your Life?. Ever since I started to add meditation to my life I am way more relaxed and my mind is much calmer. It is crazy to think that adding one thing to my life would make such a difference but it has, I am able to adapt and be flexible with the day.
Life can get crazy busy being a mom, blogger and professional organizer but taking that time before I start my day or before bed slows things down in the best way. I feel more grounded in my day.
Some apps I’ve used are Calm, Headspace and Breethe. They each have a free section so you can test which ones you like before or if you ever decide to pay for the full version.
Another great option is listening to music on these apps as well from instrumental to nature sounds of ocean waves, rain and birds chirping. Check out some other music streaming services and calming playlists to help you unwind.
