Today let’s simplify your daily routine! Life is filled with things to do. As a mom and wife running a side hustle, I feel like  I am wearing a million different hats at once. I am sure I am not alone with the tasks of running the house, managing work, tending to the kids, and somehow finding time to breathe in between. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like there is time for that either.

It feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day, especially when you’re constantly running errands or juggling multiple tasks. You are not alone in that feeling!

But what if I told you that simplifying your daily tasks and running fewer errands is absolutely possible? It’s all about working smarter, not harder. Here are six ideas that will help you simplify your daily routine and minimize those time-consuming errands.

1. Meal Planning and Grocery Delivery

Let’s start with one of the biggest time-savers: meal planning and grocery delivery. If you’re still running to the grocery store multiple times a week, it’s time to change that. My mom used to be that mom, spending hours at the grocery store, stopping at the store after work to get something we forgot. Now, she plans meals ahead of time, and it has changed the game for our multigenerational family.

By setting aside one day a week to plan your meals you can simplify your daily routine. Create a grocery list that ensures you have everything you need. Once your list is ready, use a grocery delivery service or curbside pickup to avoid those chaotic in-store trips. We use Walmart, Instacart and Voila grocery delivery in our home. I can’t tell you the last time I stepped foot in a grocery store thanks to delivery! This simple switch will save you hours each week, and you’ll never have to worry about forgetting something again.

2. Automate Your Household Essentials

Running out of everyday essentials like toilet paper, detergent, or diapers is frustrating—especially when you realize it mid-task. Instead of making a mental note to restock (and inevitably forgetting), simplify your daily routine by setting up a subscription service for these items. Amazon, Walmart, and other major retailers offer subscription options where you can have household essentials delivered on a schedule that works for you.

3. Batch Your Errands

One of the best ways to cut down on errands is to batch them together. Instead of running out to do one task today and another tomorrow, group them into one day. For example, if you need to pick up dry cleaning, return a package, and grab something from the pharmacy, plan to do them all in one trip.

It may take some planning, but batching errands will save you a ton of time and gas in the long run. To make this work, look at your week ahead and see where you can combine trips. You can even assign a specific day to run errands so you can focus on other tasks the rest of the week.

4. Simplify Your Laundry Routine

Laundry is one of those tasks that always seems to continue. Just when you think you’re caught up, another pile appears. Sound familiar? Here’s a hack to simplify your laundry routine: designate and stick to a laundry day (or two).

Instead of washing clothes whenever you notice the hamper is full, choose one or two days a week to do all your laundry. This way, you’re not constantly dealing with it, and it becomes part of your weekly routine. Also, invest in hampers that allow you to pre-sort your laundry (one for whites, one for darks, etc.). When laundry day rolls around, everything is already organized and ready to go.

If laundry is a big pain point for you like myself, consider outsourcing it or delegating it to someone else in the house. My husband and son tackle the laundry while I am on folding duty. Delegating tasks can be so helpful.

5. Use a Family Calendar to Stay Organized

Keeping track of everyone’s schedule can be a full-time job in itself. Between school, work, extracurriculars, and appointments, it’s easy to forget. Simplify your life by using a family calendar that everyone can access.

Whether you go for a physical calendar in a central spot, a shared digital calendar on your phone or you snagged yourself a Starlight Digital Calendar, having a place where all family activities are listed is a lifesaver. I personally love Google Calendar because it syncs across all devices, and I can colour-code events for each family member. This way, I can see at a glance who has what going on each day. No more “Mom, you didn’t tell me” moments!

6. Declutter Regularly to Prevent Overwhelm

It’s no secret that clutter can make daily tasks feel harder than they need to be. When your space is cluttered, finding what you need takes longer, and you spend more time cleaning and tidying. That’s why it’s essential to declutter regularly.

Take a few minutes each day to tidy up or tackle small decluttering projects. It could be as simple as clearing off the kitchen counter or organizing a junk drawer. By consistently staying on top of clutter, you’ll prevent the buildup of stuff that leads to overwhelm. Plus, when your home is organized, daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, and even getting the kids ready become so much easier.

I know finding time to declutter can be tough, but start small. Pick one area to focus on each week, and before you know it, your entire home will feel more manageable. Oh and have a designated donation bin in a central spot in your home and one in your closet for easier ways to toss things in.
