Have you always dreamed of having one of those wide and electric movie-star smiles, but your teeth color just wouldn’t cooperate? Well, now you can cheat a little bit by being smart about your lipstick color. There are shades that make your teeth whiter and those that bring out the yellow in your smile, and now you can learn which ones to choose.

The timeless reds

There’s a reason why most women and makeup artists choose reds as their go-to lipstick colors. The red hue looks great with almost any skin tone, especially if it has blue undertones. The bluish shades in red really provide a great contrast and bring out the whiteness of your teeth. It all comes down to science, really. For instance, blue and yellow are positioned right across one another on the HYPERLINK “https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AeRoD_JxEdoZpOum1KLqKYwC8RYhhoYZRul60WSjBLJs2_id_y7KJRY/”color wheel. This means that if you place them next to each other, the blue will cancel out the yellow and vice versa. So, the lipstick that has a blue base (no matter the rest of the colors) will cancel out the yellow in your teeth and make them look whiter! The blue will also not be visible, and you’ll end up with a perfect lipstick color and a better smile. However, this works both ways! If you put orangey and yellowy shades next to your teeth, they will bring out the same shades from your smile, so be careful!

Just add a little bling

For a long time, women thought that they have to avoid any sort of nude lipstick color if they don’t want their smiles to look dull and grayish. However, that’s not entirely true. Nude lipsticks that have a bit of gloss and a bluish shimmer will do wonders for your smile. If you get a good brand, blue will be completely undetectable, and thanks to the hint of bling, your teeth will look radiant! But, there are some nude colors you should steer clear of. For instance, matte formulas only work for the whitest of teeth. If you’re smile is not completely pearly, opt for a glossier finish.

Opt for dark berries

Brown lipstick colors don’t do your pearly whites’ any good—as a matter of fact, they can highlight some brown tones in your teeth and have a completely negative effect. So, it’s much better to stick to dark berry shades. Dark purples and deep reds provide a great contrast AND have blue undertones. These colors will definitely make your teeth look whiter and brighter.

Lighter shades can also work

If you’re not a fan of dark colors on your lips, don’t fret. You can still achieve a bright smile even with lighter pinks. However, since they lack the dark contrast that makes your teeth stand out, they are a bit harder to work with. But, if you stay away from shades that have an orange undertone and opt for those with bluish, berry tones, your smile will look great. On the other hand, nothing will work if your teeth are chipped, damaged and weak. That’s why it’s important to see a dentist regularly and have teeth straightening treatments that will keep your teeth and gums healthy and help you achieve a smile of your dreams.

Stay away from…

Too much icy, frosty shimmer will make your lips look too white and your teeth more yellow and dingy. It’s also smart to avoid colors that are too neon-like. Some bright colors look good, but other too glowy shades can make your surrounding skin look darker, and the same thing will happen to your teeth. Also, orange is not the best choice if you want to fake a white smile, even though it’s super popular.

Now that you know which lipstick colors to choose and which ones to throw away, your smile will look like a million bucks!
