Are you in need of some creative things you can do to organize your kid’s artwork? I got you covered! We love our kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren’s artwork but with all the years of school and home visits, it can add up.
The art can pile up so much that it feels like you are being attacked by artwork. Therefore if you are looking for kid’s artwork solutions that save you from having to throw all of them away, this is the post for you.
No one ever wants to throw out a child’s art away because you will feel bad, even though you have slipped a few in the recycling bin in the past (don’t worry I won’t tell). You also may have been caught red-handed when your child found it in the recycling bin, so you wonder, what can I do with all these coloured drawings, creative school assignments, and paintings then? I have a few suggestions for you to reuse your kid’s artwork to give them a facelift and an organizing solution to solve your problem.
1. Art Bins

Clear storage bins are great to hold those little ones’ masterpieces. I particularly love the scrapbook 12 x 12 storage bins that you can get from Michaels Craft store or Amazon. It keeps it stored and it is flatter than your typical storage bins or file bins and you can stack them on top of each other and put it on a shelf out of the way.
If you have an area where you can store it then this idea is perfect for you. I live in a small apartment and I store all my son’s paper art in this bin throughout the year and then on the last day of school, I go through it and remove the ones that I no longer want to keep. Check out my video on how I declutter my son’s school art each year.
I suggest that you get two bins per child and that way you can divide those bins into four grades. Another option is to use the first bin is for the ones you would never dare get rid of and the second bin is for the art that you have no idea what to do with.
2. Art Board
Have a designated spot to display the latest artwork your young one has done for you. It will bring great joy to your little ones and free art to put up in their room or in your home in general. It doesn’t have to look like a piece of art with just a pin. You can create a frame for it, like the bulletin board, decorate the bulletin board and match it with your home décor.
3. Displaying Art
There are many ways that you can display your children’s artwork without the classic pin to the wall. In fact, put the push pins and tape down because there are better ways. In my apartment, I came up with a solution of my own in my post – How to Create an Easy DIY Artwork Display Frame the Best Way.
By using Square SEKTION Door (from IKEA AS-IS Section), 8.5 x 11 Acrylic Wall Sign Holder, Command Poster Strips, and Command Picture Hanging Strips I created this easy artwork display to put in our hallway.
Here is another option. You can use an IKEA DIGNITET curtain wire to create a display for your child’s artwork like Stacy did from Not Just a Housewife blog.

4. Art Books
Here is a little nostalgia for those who got these art books in school. My teacher would get the class these large scrapbooks and drawing books for each of us to put our art in throughout the year. When school is done, we bring these books home with us.
What I love about them is that it keeps the special art altogether in one spot, so you do not have to worry about having art from the year spread across the home. The organizing was pretty much done for the parents.
I am not sure if teachers are doing this nowadays, but if they are not, you can purchase large scrapbooks and drawing books at a craft store and glue your favourite kid’s art in them. Then all you have to do is tuck this book into your bookshelf.
Here are some scrapbooks and art books that I found on Amazon that you can use:
- Hilroy Studio Coil Scrapbook
- Strathmore 457110 Recycled Sketch Paper Pad
- Canson XL Series Drawing
- Strathmore Sketch Paper Pad
- Canson XL Series Recycled Drawing Paper Pad, Top Wire Bound
5. Book Marks
Another creative idea you can do to organize your kid’s artwork is by getting crafty and turning a few into a bookmark. You can cut them down to the size of bookmarks and make them into bookmarks, either as a gift for family, friends or for your kids to use for their storybooks at home.
In addition, cut two pieces of art to the same size and have them back to back, now it has art on both sides of the bookmark. Laminate it and it is ready to use.
6. Cards
Need more inspiration to organize your kid’s artwork? Using your children’s artwork to make cards. Buy a set of blank cards at any craft store and dollar store, cut the art according to size for the cover and glue it on to create a personal card for any occasion. Your friends, family or the kid’s teacher will love the personal touch and you will love seeing your child’s art being reused for another purpose.
7. Place Mats
My teacher once had us make art for our parents and then when we finished she would laminate them on top of coloured construction paper. We would give them to our parents for a placemat. I thought it was so cool. If your thinking that you will never use your kid’s placemats because it doesn’t go with your home décor, then it is perfect for when your kids have playdates or great for when they are doing arts and crafts such as painting.
