Bugs love food and their food is your crumbs so you need to keep a clean home. Remove any reason or excuse for bugs to come in. Vacuum your floors over sweep because sweeping leaves things behind. Wipe down your countertops and table. Don’t forget to also clean your kitchen sink as well. If you can think of it, clean it.

Avoid Clutter & Wet Areas

You know what bugs like, clutter which should get you way more motivated to declutter your home. Less is best! Especially your paper and magazines. Bugs love the smell of paper and that means this is their favourite places to hang out around your home. Also, avoid having wet drinking and breeding grounds your home, this means your bathrooms and kitchen needs to be as dry as possible. Any leaking pipes need to be fixed by a plumber asap.

Prep Ahead

To know how to get rid of them you need to prep ahead of time. You should make a conscious effort to seal cracks and crevices throughout your home. I am talking about cupboards in your kitchen and bathroom, the sinks, and baseboards. I use silicone caulk for this and it works like a charm. Any time I see cracks anywhere especially by windows or vents, around pipes I make sure to seal it because these are places bugs like to hide, live and lay eggs.

Another thing is that you want to keep your home prepped. This means getting items that will scare them from even entering your home in the first place again. I bought these lavender-scented sachets from Amazon. You place them around your home because bugs do not like the scent of it.

You can also buy cedar rings for your closet as well.

Use Essential Oils

I love essential oils and I love the fact that you can use them to keep away bugs. It is known that bugs do not like the scents of peppermint, lavender, lemongrass, eucalyptus and tea tree oil. So, how can you use this in your home? I created a natural home bug spray just for this very reason. Your home smells like peppermint but I take that over bugs any day. If you don’t want to keep spraying it around you can always diffuse the essentials bugs don’t like it into the air.
