Living Room Before/After
Huge difference, don’t you think?
The Reveal
The new living room feels airy and less cluttered. That was a huge issue for me, I didn’t want to have to look at every cord behind the tv or all the billions of VHS tapes in the falling apart small bookshelf. I could see everything all the time which was fine in the beginning because we didn’t have too many things but now that there is countless of gaming devices and games the old entertainment begin to be cluttered.
This area seems to have the right amount of storage. I have the choice between hiding things or showcasing. We got rid of our old bookshelves because this entertainment center has an additional piece that is a bookcase. I knew when I saw it that I wanted two, not only to balance the space but because of all the storage I gain from it. Of course, this entertainment center is flexible so you can mix and match to build what you design.
Entertainment Center
I had to fight to get this in a white colour. My mom doesn’t usually get anything white because she thinks that the kids will get it dirty. Which is true for most cases however I did not want another dark colour. If we wanted this living room to look different, the colour had to be included in this change. I am so happy to have this in white. It brightens up our living room and naturally looks clean and crisp.
I don’t know about you but our family loves blankets in the living room. I bought this basket from Micheal’s Craft Store. I remember just falling in love with the print. The white and dark blue really plays nicely and stores quite a few blankets. Blue so happens to be our favourite colour so having that in the heart of the living room only brings calmness and smiles.
New Couch
Did we get the same pillows as we did in the plan? No, we actually used the same pillows I used for the bench I created. I love that print and it matches the basket for the blankets. The light grey pillows were bought from Fairweather when I was shopping for dresses. It was on sale for 30% off I believe so I thought why not. One says ‘There is no place like Home‘!
Final Thoughts
My plan really helped me to map out my vision for my client (my mom). I gained more storage as I wanted. The hidden storage is my favourite part of this space, you can’t see everything which is perfect. The grey couch is comfortable and building it wasn’t as hard as I thought.
The white entertainment center makes the room feel airy like I wanted. I believe I created the balance, I was looking for by using the white, grey and dark blue. The light wood of the armchairs plays nice with the black fabric. I believe that I truly made our living room dramatically better than before.
