IKEA HACK: Navy Blue BRUSALI

ikea hack brusali

During one of my many trips to IKEA, I bought this well-needed BRUSALI shoe organizer for $99.00 (Update: it now costs  I was determined to buy the white version, but when I got there it was out of stock and only the brown version was available. Not even thinking, I said, “No big deal, I am going to spray paint it blue anyways“.

I have so many projects that I have been doing that I didn’t even clue in that this wasn’t supposed to be a spray painting project. It just so happened that spray painting this BRUSALI IKEA shoe organizer blue was my best idea. Here is what I did.

BRUSALI IKEA Hack

First thing first, I needed to build it and with my handy IKEA drill, it was done in no time.

I used Krylon 53523 Oxford Blue ‘Satin Touch’ Decorator Spray Paint – 12 oz. Aerosol (True Blue the gloss version) to give this not really my style of colour BRUSALI IKEA shoe organizer the perfect makeover. After spraying it to death and giving it an hour or so dry time. It was all ready for me to place inside.

Our Shoe Area Before

This adult/ guest shoe section has been giving us a little trouble. The shoe rack we bought from Dollarama for $2.00 broke and my son occasionally likes to show us that he can take it apart with little effort. The small table there was a place to toss things and it wasn’t functioning well.

Now, look at it!

What a difference, right? This BRUSALI show organizer is the perfect pop of colour to greet you when you first walk in. It holds 12 pairs of shoes which are perfect for our family. It has a shelf that I will later find something to put there. I love it!

It is the perfect invention to keep any entryway from looking completely disastrous. Also, great for larger or small families. Regardless of if you want to use this for a house or a small space, everyone has shoes that need to be stored so why not keep your shoes organized with this? Why wasn’t this created sooner?

Final Thoughts

I am so happy that I accidentally spray-painted this blue!

Update (Aug 2022) since the time that I did this project, I have had no issues with this Brusali IKEA shoe cabinet. It hasn’t broken and the paint is still in the same condition. It has definitely held our shoes as my siblings grew and overall it is still fantastic. The only thing I will mention is that if you have a bigger shoe size it may not fit your shoe. Therefore if you are thinking about getting this Brusali IKEA shoe cabinet, double-check your shoe at the store.

  10. […] do to really make this entry closet work for my sibling’s shoes. The adults/ guest have the IKEA Brusali Shoe Organizer that I sprayed painted so that section is not a problem area […]

  11. […] My entryway is where the big change happened. We took an area that was filled with shoe issues which basically means that we have a done of shoes because there is a ton of us living in here but found solutions to really help us. I have to say that investing in shoe cabinets are so worth the money. I love the fact that the shoes are hidden but also you can make it your own with simple IKEA hack solutions such as changing the colour with spray paint or adding knobs.
