I love spring cleaning so I thought I would talk about how to spring clean your wardrobe with style. It is a great time to declutter and give our wardrobes a fresh start. Today, I’m thrilled to provide you with tips that I personally use through my own wardrobe spring cleaning journey and bonus tips that have worked for others. Each closet is different in size and we all have different preferences so use the tips that best suit you and your schedule.
How to Spring Clean Your Wardrobe
1. Declutter, Declutter!
So what is the first thing for your journey on how to spring clean your wardrobe with style? You probably guess that I would say decluttering first but it truly is the first step in my wardrobe spring cleaning. My closet is pretty small so it is essential for me to only keep things I am actually going to use.
I take everything out, piece by piece, and assess each item. Don’t think that I am easy on myself, I assess the same way I would advise others. If the clothing doesn’t make me happy or serve a purpose, it’s time to donate. Don’t think about decluttering as just letting go of clothes; it’s about making space for pieces that truly align with who you are today.
2. Seasonal Swapping
This part is more for those who rotate their clothes by season. I wear my clothing all season long but I wanted to make sure this part was in for those who do this. You are going to need to ensure that the clothes are suitable for the current weather. This will help you to stay organized and ensure that you have easy access to these items.
3. Rediscovering Forgotten Items
Apart from clearing off the dust from my closet shelf, there is something fun about rediscovering hidden treasures. It can be so easy to forget about items lost or pushed to the back of the closet. Use this time to treat your closet like a store. Move items you want to wear more often to the front of your closet.
4. Visually Appealing Wardrobe
I believe that we should arrange clothes in a way that works best for our lifestyle. To be honest, I typically don’t organize by colour or season but love to organize by category. I honestly think that it is essential to organize in a way that you can grab what you need when you need it.
5. Repair and Revive
Set aside time to show love to the pieces that need a little extra care, you know which ones I am talking about. I am talking about mending loose buttons, fixing hems, and finally sending those items to the dry cleaner that has been on your list. It doesn’t hurt to revive pieces that hold sentimental value or have the potential for a second life.
6. Donation and Giving Back
Of course, I couldn’t leave without talking about donating. I love donating Items that no longer align with my style. Typically I have a local location that I donate to but you can also set aside clothing you think your friends or family members might like. Either way, if you choose to donate you are ensuring that your gently worn pieces are being used by someone else.
