Many parents have already started their remote back to school but if you haven’t this is for you. How to set up for remote learning at home in a small space? Today we are going to talk about that because many of us do not have the space to be able to create luxury classrooms that are Instagram worthy.
Decide on where you want your home classroom
Depending on the space you have in your home, you first need to decide where you want to set up. You will need a space where your kids are able to focus, where you can keep an eye on them and if you are working during this time, a place where the noise can’t disturb you. Here are some places you can consider:
- Bedrooms
- Kitchen Table
- Living Room
- Office
Home Classroom Ideas
I don’t want you to think that because you have limited space, that your home classroom can’t be inspiring. It can! Having a bigger space may give you the room you desire but getting creative is key!
In fact, all you need are these essentials:
- A Desk (or dining table)
- Computer, Laptop or Tablet
- Storage for supplies (Caddy bin or Utility Cart)
- Wireless Mouse & Mouse Pad
- Printer/Scanner
- Ink/Tonners
Use your kid’s favourite colours and place inspirational quotes where they can see it. If wall space is limited you can find cute notebooks or decorate the cover of their laptop to really give them inspiration everyday.
Desks for Home Classroom
If the dining table is not your thing, then finding a desk that fits your kids and your home is key. When creating a home classroom you need really take in the space that you are working with.
If you have decided to give your kids a desk in their bedroom then you should look for extra storage space, shelving on the side or drawers in a desk. These are essential so that they are able to store items they need but also have quick access to them.
Here are some of my favourite desks from IKEA:
- MICKE IKEA Desk
- ALEX IKEA Desk
- MICKE IKEA Desk with Extra Storage
- VITTSJÖ Laptop Desk
- MICKE Corner work station
- LINNMON / ALEX Table
Home Classroom Storage
Of course, if you need even more space for supplies then you should get yourself a Utility Rolling Cart from Amazon or from Michael’s Craft Store. It is not only functional but handy for moving things around. Don’t forget to utilize your wall space to put up shelving for books or supplies that your kids may need.
Other things you should think about getting is:
- Calendar
- Bulletin Board (or whiteboard)
- Pencil Holder
- Drawer Organizer
- File Holder
- Cord Organizer
- Magazine File Box
