What You Need:
Step 1 – Candle
You are going to need candles. I bought mine from Dollarama for $4.00 each. This was a smaller tablescape design so I didn’t need too much but for a wedding make sure to map it out ahead of time of how many you will need. Also, remember to take off the wrapper on the candle, if it has any.
Step 2 – Wrap the Candle
Next, you are going to measure where you want your gold paint to be, then wrap the bottom half of the candle with painter tape. I bought mine at the dollar store but you can find it at any hardware store.
Use the first candle as a template and guide for the rest. I made sure to line each candle side by side so that the painter’s tape we all in the same place.
Step 3 – Paint the Candle
Gently apply gold paint to the bottom of the candle. I made sure to add a thick layer of paint and allowed it to dry before applying another coat of paint. I repeated this twice but you can repeat this process until you feel it looks great.
Let it dry for about 5-10 minutes depending on the paint you have chosen to use. I bought mine from Micheals Craft store and chose their metallic acrylic collection.
Step 4 – Remove Painter’s Tape
Lastly, you will want to remove the painter tape very gently. Slow is wise in this step to get the best results. If you remove it too quickly then the paint will clip at the perfect line you created.
Final Thoughts
This is a brilliant way to save money with candles. Simply take a cheaper candle and give it a makeover by applying gold paint at the bottom. It is an easy task that you can do over and over again. It really makes it look way better than before all from adding a little pop of colour. When I was done using it for my tablescape, I reused it as decor for my bookshelf next to my entertainment centre.
