Can you hear that? That’s the beautiful sound of an organized kitchen drawer, which happened to be the most requested space that you wanted to know how to organize this week! You spoke and I listened! What makes this post so special is that these are tips I use in my home. I am going to be showing you how to organize your kitchen drawer with a simple four-step process:
Step 1 – Remove Everything
When it comes to kitchen drawers, I believe it is best to take everything out of it. Dump it on your kitchen table so you can really see what you have. This not only gives you the benefit of seeing everything you have but also, you can now see the space that you need to work with. As you can tell my kitchen drawer has gone through a tornado from the last time I went through it but, I could see way better when I took everything out.
Step 2 – Sort the Unused
If you have items that you got and never used. It is time to set it free. If you are thinking what if you need it one day, but it has been three years then you do not need it. Anything that is broken and can be recycled or is trash worthy, toss it right inside. Here are also a few things you most likely will not use again or could donate:
- Takeout cutlery (plastic forks, knives, spoons, and chopsticks)
- Unused Placemats and Tablecloths
- Baby/toddler cutlery that kids grow out of.
Step 3 – Time to Organize
Now that you are working with a blank slate, you can organize your kitchen drawer. I purchased this Joseph Joseph DrawerStore Organizer Tray (Utensil and Gadgets) drawer insert from Amazon.
Unfortunately, it was bigger than expected so I had to get creative and decided to take my saw and cut it in half. I used tape to keep the ends smooth. Which is perfect because now I can use the other piece in another drawer. I really love the transformation. I mean just look at the after photo!
Step 4 – Repeat the Process
Yes, for each drawer you are going to need to do this all over again. Let’s recap, you are going to need to remove everything, sort the unused items and organize the rest of the drawers in your kitchen. You will only want to keep items you use the most in your top drawer. The remaining drawers can be organized by category such as baking or by mostly used
