It is time to think about your self-care routine! Yes, I am going to tell you the best ways to organize self-care into your life. In fact, did you know there are six types of self-care that you need to take care of such as your emotional, practical, physical, mental, social, and spiritual! These six should be well taken care of and added to your self-care routine.
Emotional
Your emotional self-care is all about your feelings. Think about Disney’s Pixar movie Inside Out, we all have pillar emotions that we rollercoaster through each day and week. This means that some feelings need to be taken care of more than others. It is not about being perfect or happy all the time but to be able to handle each rollercoaster of emotions that come your way.
- Remove toxic relationships with friends or family.
- Unfollow toxic social media accounts
- Get yourself a therapist
- Call or sit down with a trusted friend or family member to talk about your feelings
- Write in a journal
- Play music
Practical
Practical self-care is all about arranging your life or home in a way to prevent future stressful situations. That is where organizing comes in! The best way to organize practical self-care into your life is to first remove and simplify things that are cluttering your home and your time. Yes, these are big aspects of your life that are making the most noise.
Believe it or not, organizing can relieve stress and reducing the amount of clutter you have can make a big difference in how you feel about yourself, your home and your life. Here are some other ways:
- Have items you need front and center for your morning and nightly routines
- Set clothing out ahead of time (if you have space).
- Create a budget (I have a free one in my free resource library)
- Organize your home by creating categories and labelling bins/baskets
Physical
Now let’s talk about your physical self-care! There are many things you can do to take care of yourself physically and that includes getting enough rest, going outside for a walk, exercising, and drinking enough water. It can also be something a simple as soaking in a bath with music playing, candles lit and a glass of wine. Take the time to take care of your body.
Mental
Did you know that you need to take care of your mental health as well? If you think that we just covered the mental part when we talked about emotions, your wrong because as much as your feelings play a part in your brain’s mental health it is different. When it comes to self-care for your mind, you are choosing activities that help improve and relax your mind. Here are a few ways you can do this:
- Reading a book
- Learning about a subject
- Solving puzzles
- Learning a new skill or language
- Playing chess
- Use the Lumosity site/app
Social
Social self-care has to deal with your socialization with others and the relationships you have with the people you have in your life such as friends and family. I always believe in surrounding yourself with people that value, challenge, encourage and support you.
Another thing, I believe that there are friends in your life that are permanent and some that are temporary. So, feel free to declutter your friends circle every once in a while if they don’t align with your life anymore. As for the friends and family that you cherish the most here is how to continue to keep the connection strong:
- Lunch, breakfast, or dinner with friends
- Monthly girls date
- Call your parents regularly
- Text or call check-ins with friends
- Virtual movie nights using Netflix Watch Party (with this Google Chrome Extension)
- Video Chat with loved ones via WhatsApp, Zoom, or Group FaceTime
Spiritual
Lastly out of the six is your spiritual self-care. It really depends on how you want your spiritual self-care to be. Some might choose the religious route while others may choose another direction. Whichever way you decide for yourself, this is something you should add to your self-care routine. Here are some ideas:
- Meditation
- Yoga
- Dedicate time for self-reflection
- Praying
- Attending a place of worship
