Today we are talking about how to make the most of your space. So, you feel like your home is far too small for your requirements, you’re not alone. A recent study suggested that roughly seven in ten homeowners in Britain are not happy with their home, 28% of these participants acknowledged that their home is simply too small for them.
Maximize Your Space
If it’s space you struggle for there are a multitude of tips and tricks you can implement to help maximize the space you do have available. From simple tasks like de-cluttering each room and removing unnecessary bits and bobs to bigger projects that employ a bit of elbow grease and require some good quality DIY tools (and a bit of creative spirit!), there is a whole range of changes you can make to your home to maximize your all-important space.
Low Ceilings
When working with low ceilings and limited storage space think vertical, this means using the floor to wall shelving, spaces above cabinets and room above doors for shelves to add not only much-needed storage space for belonging but to draw the eye upwards and add the illusion of height in the room.
Paint
A splash of paint can go a long way when making a room seem bigger. Cool colors like light blues and nudes are best for walls as they help to expand the space. When painting the ceiling try using a lighter color than the walls as it will help to give the appearance of height.
Space It Out
Try to limit the use of doors as they create clear boundaries, breaking up space and making rooms feel claustrophobic. Try using curtains, glass or removing the doors altogether! This tip is especially relevant when working in studio flats or apartments.
Double Duty
There are double-duty solutions for pretty much everything… Your bed? It definitely space under the mattress for some clothes or bedding, The dining room table? Does it make a perfect desk area in the daytime and the space under your coffee table? A great bookshelf alternative…
DIY
Ah, good old DIY! With some good quality power and hand tools alongside a bit of elbow grease, you can make your own storage solutions for even the smallest, most awkward of spaces. Not only that but they can be decorated to perfectly match your décor.
Conclusion
So, what did we learn about how to make the most of Your space? Perhaps the most important tip of all is to have a really good de-clutter! Get rid of those objects you don’t need and in the future, every time you place your hands on an object ask yourself, ‘Do I really need this?’. You’ll be surprised how many bits and pieces you have in your home that aren’t needed and that takes up that much-needed space.
