How to make & organize an attractive presentation in Canva easy for FREE? Before you think that you don’t need organizing when it comes to making a Canva presentation you have another thing coming, and I wouldn’t be an organizing expert if I didn’t share all aspects of organizing. So welcome to organizing your business or side hustle or blog or YouTube (you get my point!).
Why Does Your Presentation Need to Be Attractive?
When I watch webinars or presentations, one of the things that help me stay alert and engaged is the personality of the host, the design of the presentation and the knowledge that I am learning. Think about your presentation like a store, you want it to look good and nice for potential clients or subscribers to want to stick around.
Having an attractive presentation makes an impact which is the number one reason why I thought I should write this topic on making a presentation in Canva that is appealing to your audience.
Step 1 – Sign Up for Canva!
This is going to be the best sign up of your life because this is not only great for presentations but also for basically anything you want to create, from Pinterest pins to Instagram graphics. The whole of designing potential is endless. If you don’t have an account with Canva, feel free to sign up here for FREE! All you need is a name and an email and then you can start designing.
Of course, they have a premium but you can get just as much done without it. Believe me, you can’t go wrong with either choice.
Step 2 – Select the Presentation Template Tab
You have many options to find the Canva presentation templates, from on the main page, using the search box or the template tab at the top. Once you click that, a new page with a blank presentation template will open in a new tab.
Step 3 – Select a Presentation Template to Use
There are lots of presentation templates to choose from. If you are new to the site, it can get overwhelming at first. One tip I always recommend is to not be frustrated if you can’t find something you love 100% because the best thing about Canva is that you can customize everything.
Also, there are presentation decks with page templates from a collection that you can choose to use by selecting the apply “all pages” tab or mix and match with other templates on Canva simply by selecting other templates.
Step 4 – Upload Photos or Use Stock Photos
You have so many choices for uploading your own photos, videos and audio. Simply click the purple button with the words “Upload Media” and you can upload many images. Of course, if you ever run out of space you can always delete the images you are no longer using.
If you don’t have any photos to use, don’t worry! Canva has a great stash of stock photos that you can choose from, all you need to do is type in the search box for what you are looking for like flowers or a laptop.
There are both free and paid photos there. Of course, make sure that you pay attention when choosing in case you were not looking to pay for a stock photo. To know if a photo is free, hover your mouse over the image.
Step 5 – Use Elements
To add some images, items or drawings, the elements are a great tab to use. This is also where you can find arrows, shapes, frames for photos, stickers, charts, grids, and more.
Step 6 – Change your Fonts
You can select done-for-you font templates then change the fonts of them and customize them with words you want. If you want to ungroup a pair, there is an “Ungroup” tab there for you once you click the font box.
To change your fonts, you need to first click the font box. When you do, the white bar will open up choices for you to explore. This is where you can change your font, font size, change the colour or even add effects.
Step 7 – Add Music
Before you start your presentation you can always add some music. Canva has a few options you can choose from. This is a very sweet way to really make your presentation pop. The volume options and when you want to stop it are all here.
Step 8 – Add Video
If you want a video to play during one of your slides or even as a backdrop, there are fantastic ariel shots and videos to choose from with Canva that are marked either free or one that you need to purchase.
Step 9 – Change your Background
There are many ways you can change your background for your Canva presentation. You can use the tab and select from there if you are looking for something particular or textures or prints. You can always slide a photo from the stock or your uploaded images to the background. This also goes for if you wanted a video background as well, you can slide it right onto the template.
If you ask me, honestly speaking I don’t use the tab way of changing my background. It is simpler if you click the background and change the colour. Also, if you have a photo on your slides, you can use the suggested colours of the photos you have.
Step 10 – Customize & Present!
You are going to repeat the process with the other slides, entering the presentation information that you want to include until you are done. From there you have the choice of using Canva to present your presentation. The music (if you chose one) will automatically go on when you hit “Present“. You have the choice to click to turn the next slide or use the arrows.
If you don’t want to use Canva to present and you want to use Powerpoint, you can always download the slides and insert them onto Powerpoint as an image.
Note: if you chose music, it will not download with your images, unless you decided to download it as an MP4 video instead.
