 Build An Engaging Blog.

In order to grow your own following on Pinterest, you first need to build an engaging blog. A blog is an excellent way to share your expertise with others but also to share things that you simply love or have worked for you. You really don’t need to be an expert in something to start a blog. In fact, even if you are a beginner in something, you still know more knowledge than someone who hasn’t even begun.

Blogging allows you to write about topics that interest you, and then share those posts with other people who might also enjoy reading them. That is where Pinterest comes in! Once you have created blog posts, you can pin them in order to build a strong base of followers simply by sharing content that interests them. Plus, you can also gain money from blogging.

Here are just a few examples of bloggers out there who make a monthly income from blogging:

Start your Blog.

Many believe that all you have to do is create a site and that is it. However, with so many platforms out there, it can be very overwhelming for a beginning blogger. Don’t worry I got your back!

I did my research and did a comparison that resulted in WordPress being who I decided to go with after years of being with Blogger. Don’t make the same mistake of simply jumping on the first free blogging service out there, WordPress is worth it and it only costs $3.95 a month.

How do you start a WordPress website? You will need to first download it. WordPress has two different options that you can choose from:

  • They have a hosted option (www.wordpress.com)
  • and a self-hosted option (www.wordpress.org). (Psst… this is by far the most popular and this doesn’t affect your blog domain, it can be .com if you choose.)

Download WordPress by going to wordpress.org and clicking on “Download WordPress”.

Sign up for Pinterest Business.

Next, you need a free Pinterest Business account. This is where you are going to get all the inside information you need about your audience. If you already have an account here is how you can switch from a personal account to a business account.

  1. Log into your personal Pinterest account
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Click Account Management
  4. Scroll and select Convert to a business account
  5. Fill out the information to Build your profile and Describe your business, that is it!

Set Up Main Page for Success.

The way you set up your Pinterest page matters because that is where your audience will choose to follow you or move on to the next blog or business. Stop thinking about this page as a hobby spot for you but a place where your audience members or clients can find your blog, your website or your services.

Aim to attract and not repel. If you go onto my Pinterest page, you can see that it is visually appealing but also organized. I did that for a reason, this is a visual platform and I want to attract the right people to my page.

Choose a Niche that is Right for You.

A niche is a specific topic or type of content that you create and post regularly. I heard it so many times that you got to find one niche. However, when I first started blogging I was a multi-passionate girl who was still figuring out my niche. If you are multi-passionate you can still niche down and share other pieces of yourself.

When you look at my Pinterest you will see different pillars of content but you also see two of my niches that feed into my overall niche. I am a professional organizer who helps you organize your home and your wedding. Therefore when you see my page you will see both home and wedding categories.

Now the best thing is although I have those categories or niches it doesn’t mean I won’t pin fashion, recipes or crafts I like, it’s just not always at the top of my page. It’s sprinkled in.

If you’re looking to start a blog, there’s no need to worry about finding a niche right now. You can test a few options out to see what sticks. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right fit for you.

For example, if you love cooking, you could create a blog where you share pictures and recipes of delicious meals you’ve created. Or, if you like me–love multiple things, you could create a blog with three to four pillars of content to attract those who may love crafting ideas but are also interested in wedding or business tips.

Create A Unique Branding Strategy.

If you’re looking to grow your Pinterest account, there’s no better place than Pinterest itself. You can find out how to make your own board here. Use my article as a guide to creating your board and before you know it, you will be creating too many boards to count.

Once you’ve got your board set up, that is when you get to start sharing relevant pins. You want to be sure that your pins are consistent with your brand image, and that your content is relevant to what your followers are looking for. Trust me when I say that pinners love seeing new things, so don’t be afraid to keep the pins coming!

Organize your Boards to Flow.

Figure out what you want to be known for and then create boards you think your audience will be looking for. Such as for my wedding pillars of content I have a bunch of choices for my audience if they are looking for inspiration for their wedding dress, wedding reception decor or just some fantastic ideas for their wedding. It is all here and organized just for them.

That goes the same for my audience seeking to organize their homes. There are specific boards just for them. Some like to keep all in one board but breaking your niche into smaller categories gives your audience more variety and won’t get lost in a board that has everything in one.

So what do you do with your personal boards that aren’t for your audience? You can still keep them. Many times they might be interested in that recipe you just pinned or that outfit you loved.

My only recommendation is to move boards that are not a part of your niche or brand to the bottom of your page. If you don’t want them to see it at all, you can make it a secret board for only you to see.

SEO for Pinterest.

I say this all the time and I am going to say it again. Think of Pinterest as a search engine just like Google. Why? People are using it to search for stuff all the time it’s not just for crafts or fashion but just about anything is on Pinterest from starting a business to getting your first home. It’s filled with inspiration that is perfect for a variety of niches, businesses and brands.

The key spots to help get your Pinterest page found are:
  • Title
  • Page About Section
  • Board Names
  • Board Description
  • Pin Title
  • Pin Description

Promote Your Blog Posts.

Once you’ve chosen a niche or topics you want to talk about, and created content/blog posts about it, you’ll need to promote your posts. This means sharing them with friends, family, and other social media users. You can do this by sharing them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Google+, LinkedIn, and other social networks that might share similar interests as yours.

Now getting to five million monthly views doesn’t happen overnight. It can take a few months to get a lot of traffic to your Pinterest page. The key is to regularly pin things and that doesn’t have to be just your content, mix it up! Once you have shared your post, you should check back every few days to see if anyone has repinned your image. If they have, you can take a minute to thank them by commenting on their post.

Grow Your Pinterest Account Audience.

You can grow your audience simply by creating high-quality content that people will love but there is more to that. I didn’t get to 5 million monthly views from pinning once and a while. Remember pinning regularly is key! My secret is that I use Tailwind as a personal Pinterest assistant to pin for me all throughout the day. I used to have around 1,000 pins scheduled for each week using Tailwind before Pinterest changed its rules. Now, I pin around 500 each month.

I simply pin through them and set it to schedule. It is fantastic because once I schedule, I don’t have to think about them. The best part is that you can loop your blog pins so that it can keep scheduling automatically.
