This year I am going to try Slow Sundays because Sunday is usually not as slow as I hope to be. Usually, it’s filled with blog and side hustle tasks that need to get done and home tasks that I can’t get to in the week. I am sure your weekends are just as busy as mine.
There is value in creating a slow Sunday where you can create a personal calm time to slow down, indulge in self-care, and cherish simple joys.
1. Morning Mindfulness
The mornings are my favourite because they start my day with stillness. Typically I take a moment to meditate or have my personal spirituality study. However, this can be different for you. You may choose to use this time to stretch or simply sip a cup of herbal tea or coffee in silence.
2. Cozy Culinary Adventures
If cooking is something you enjoy doing, you may want to think about whipping up a decadent breakfast or trying new recipes on your slow Sunday. Taking that time to enjoy the aroma of fresh ingredients and the sizzle of a pan sounds great to me. Of course, grabbing a takeout once in a while isn’t bad either!
3. Nature’s Embrace
Connecting with nature is something that is important and should be added to your slow Sunday routine. Try to aim to get out of the house and go on a stroll in a nearby park, walk down the street to grab a coffee or some flowers. If you have a garden, it would be a great time to tend to it, or simply bask in the warmth of sunlight streaming through the window if the weather is not the best. I always feel better when I am outdoors, even for a little bit.
4. Creative Cocooning
Creative expression is not negotiable in my Slow Sundays. Whether I’m working on a DIY project, organizing something in my home, working on my novel or journaling, this cozy cocooning period allows my creativity to flow without the constraints of a hectic schedule. It’s time to let imagination take the lead for a while.
5. Tech Detox and Unplugging
6. Literary Escapes
7. Reflective Journaling
8. Candlelit Evenings
9. Quality Time with Loved Ones
Final thoughts
As you can tell, how to create your own slow Sunday is not about a rigid schedule or a checklist of activities. You can completely make it whatever your heart desires because it’s about intentional living. The goal is to make your slow Sunday a day of recharging and savouring the moments that often slip through the cracks in our fast-paced lives. It’s a personal journey, uniquely customized to who you are today. So tell me, what do you like to do on your Sundays or weekends to unwind or recharge?
