Does it really matter how your primary bedroom looks and feels? It sure does. The primary bedroom is an oasis from the rest of the house. Even if you only sleep in yours, a bedroom designed to feel like an escape from the stresses of life helps you to sleep better. Follow along as we teach you how to create a relaxing bedroom retreat.
Soft Lighting
If you have a fluorescent bulb hanging from the primary bedroom ceiling, don’t plan on relaxing anytime soon in that room. Lighting plays an intricate role in how you feel in your bedroom.
Choose lights that you can dim when you want a warmer mood. Candles, even battery-operated ones, are perfect for chilling out before bedtime. A reading light near your bed is also helpful if you enjoy some reading before you sleep.
A Comfortable Bed
There’s no way around it; the bed in the primary bedroom is the center of attention. Make it count with beautiful bedding. Choose bedding colors that make you feel calm and cozy, then add texture and softness with lots of pillows and an extra quilt or comforter folded at the foot of the bed.
Cotton bedding is an excellent choice for easy care and softness that increases with age. But beautiful bedding is only comfy when it’s clean. You can prolong the life of your bed linens by washing them regularly. You can’t beat warm, fresh-smelling bed sheets when you hop into bed.
Relaxing Aromas
To create a relaxing bedroom retreat, you’ve got to cover a few senses, including smell. Let your primary bedroom have an aroma that’s different from the rest of the house so that when you walk in and close the door, you know you’ve found a place to relax.
Add wonderful smells using scented candles or scents that plug into the wall. You can also hang dried lavender or heat essential oils through a diffuser. Many smells help us to sleep better, such as lavender, peppermint, and chamomile.
Soft Rugs
Rugs are great accent pieces that pull a room together. They also soften sounds and feel good under your feet. Choose rugs in colors that coordinate with the rest of the room and place them in high-traffic spots.
If you enjoy meditation and can squeeze a designated spot for it somewhere in the primary bedroom, finish off the space with a comfortable rug. Rugs are also useful for floor exercises.
Keep It Clean
What good is a welcoming, comfortable primary retreat if it’s never clean? Once you have your room how you want it, continue enjoying it by keeping it clean and organized. Spend a day decluttering your bedroom first, then try your best to give everything a place so there aren’t piles of things sitting around. Set a weekly cleaning schedule and include the primary bedroom so that it’s always clean and inviting for you.
Conclusion
With a little effort and upkeep, you’ll have a primary bedroom that you can’t wait to retreat to each night.
