Moving is always a hassle. Organizing, packing and relocating is a nerve-wracking process that can go on for weeks and at the very end, right when you are weary and drained beyond belief, there comes another life-sucking task, cleaning. Leasing contracts are merciless, along with landlords who rarely empathize with you being fed up with the whole moving thing. Since cleaning is an inevitable part of every moving agony, perhaps it is best to accept your fate and arm yourself with dust cloths and cleaning supplies. Here are a few tips that will make you clean like a pro and leave your home spotless.
Don’t start too soon
Although you are in a hurry, remember that cleaning part comes at the end. Keep your cleaning supplies at hand and make sure to empty your home. Load and send away your belongings to have a clear view of the place. Look around and inspect everything to determine if there are visible signs of damage. Remove nails and hooks from the walls, fill in the holes and paint if needed. Repair or replace any damaged items, like light fixtures or clothing racks. Start cleaning your home from back to front and make sure not to miss cleaning door or window frames.
Bathrooms
Do the major cleaning of the bathroom few days before the move and do a quick clean on your moving day. Empty the drawers and cabinets and wipe them. Make sure to get rid of mildew and remove limescale from the showerhead with vinegar. Use bleach and disinfectant to clean the toilet, bathtub, and sink. Clean tiles, faucets, and drains with abrasive cleaners and don’t forget to wipe mirrors or to clean built-in towel racks, toilet paper holder or soap holder.Â

Rooms
Â
Wash curtains and clean windows, frames, and blinds. Move onto the remaining furniture and clean all the drawers, inside and outside. Clean behind and under the furniture and finally, sweep and mop the floors. Once you shipped all your stuff, cleaning the rooms is quite simple. However, if cleaning part is still taking too much time, many people in Australia seek help from removalist companies and when requesting removalist quotes Brisbane, Aussies use this opportunity to check if moving companies also offer cleaning services. This can help them get things faster, and kill two birds with one stone.Â
Â
Kitchen
Â
The kitchen is difficult to clean, so a good idea is to leave it for the end. Empty cabinets and drawers, clean them thoroughly and replace old liners. Use soapy water to clean counters and glass cleaners for glass surfaces. Defrost the fridge, remove shelves and wash them with a mild cleaner. Clean the fridge inside and outside, as well as the floor under it. Use oven cleaner to scrub and remove the grease from the oven and entire stove surface. Before cleaning the microwave, put a bowl of lemon juice and water inside and turn it on for a couple of minutes. After moving and cleaning the appliances, sweep and mop the kitchen floor.Â
Â
Â
Don’t forget the outdoors
Garage, patio and the lawn counts too, unfortunately. Remove oil stains from the garage, sweep the patio, clean garden furniture and make sure to mow the lawn. Check the gutters and remove any debris. Also, remove cobwebs and dust from window sills and house walls.Â
Regardless of how exhausting moving can be, make sure that your home sparkles on your way out. Leave behind your old place the exact way you wish to find your new home – bright, welcoming, and squeaky clean.
