Want to know how to clean up your emails and dominate your inbox? This is for all those who have been thinking about organizing their emails for months or maybe even years. But first, let me get to know you a little bit. Yes, I am calling a rollcall! Tell me if this is you:
- My inbox is overflowing with emails.
- I have 2000 or 3000 emails in my inbox.
- I only deal with the most important emails and leave the rest sitting there.
- Or you are simply always behind on your inbox.
Any of these sound like you? Perfect! This one is for you! Here is how to dominate your inbox.
Step 1 – Carve Out Some Time
Emails are going to come in daily, so you need to carve out time to really go through it. This could be while you are drinking your coffee in the morning, during commercials while you are watching tv or maybe you have some time at night. Personally, for me, I check my emails a few times a day so that nothing is sitting there for too long.
Step 2 – Start with the Easy
I know that going through your emails is not the most fun thing to do. I get it. So, start with your junk mail. Most times there is nothing in there worth saving but scroll through all of those junk emails carefully just in case and only take out the ones that you need. The rest can be cleared away with a simple empty folder button.
Step 3 – Unsubscribe
It is time to clean up. If you do not care about it, if you do not need, read or want it… then it got to go. The best way to do so is unsubscribing instead of marking it as junk. Think about it like this, marking an email as junk simply sweeps it under the rug while unsubscribing is opening your door and tossing it in the trash can.
How do you unsubscribe from a newsletter or email subscription? Most of the time you can find that at the bottom of your emails or sometimes right at the top right corner of the email. Once you click it, then it will redirect you to a page for you to confirm that you want to unsubscribe. Friend do not hesitate, you do, press that button.
Step 4 – Sort and Systemize
Now you can see what you are working with. So, let’s sort those emails out. I am all about making systems in life so you can bet that you need a system for your email as well. What you need to do is create folders to store the emails that you need to keep. You can break it down into important, bills, family, friends, shopping and school (if you have children). Take it one step further by tagging or arranging certain emails to automatically go into designated folders.
Final Thoughts
Ready to clean up your emails and dominate your inbox? Remember that your inbox should be a hub for important information, bills, all of your relationships with friends and family as well as anything that provides you value in your life. Carve out some time to get it done, start with the easy, unsubscribe and sort and systemize.
