How to Be Your Own Self-Care Boss

How to Be Your Own Self-Care Boss | City of Creative Dreams

Life gets busy my friend so that means we need to pay extra attention to yourselves. Yes, I am talking about self-care. Don’t mix that up with selfish because you are not selfish when you are giving yourself self-love. I am going to say that one more time because saying it twice means it’s important. So again, you are not selfish when you are giving yourself self-love and self-care.

Can you guess what we are talking about today? We are discussing how to be a self-caring boss?

I consistently get asked… “How do you do it, Shanice? You’re a mom and author. You run a blog/site, you are always on social media and you have a full-time job you go to every day. How do I do it?” And I jokingly say “I don’t know” lol. However, I do know and it takes me a lot of planning to get there. That is why I use my B.O.S.S method to get me through the day, week and month.

Breathe

You must think I am obsessed with this concept of breathing and you are right. Breathing is a must. It is my go-to when life itself gets so hectic and when it feels like I can’t breathe. Taking deep breaths helps so much to relax your body and calm and ease your mind. So that is why it is first on my list because it works. Take three deep breaths. I also pair breathing with Stress Away essential oil from Young Living. I dab it onto my wrists and neck every single day before I head off to work.

Organize

The key to organizing is to lay your life out and map it around. Alright, it takes a little bit more detail than that. For me, I use my calendar on my phone and my wall calendar. I keep my blog life, work life and home life separate. It is important that I do this so I don’t get overwhelmed with the many things going on in my life. Which means they each have their own organized method or designated calendar.

System

There is a system to my madness. Yes, my life works the way it does because I have an organized system that I worked extremely hard on. As mentioned above I like to keep things as separate as I can. For home, I have a wall calendar and my phone for all my family and self-needs. For my site, however, I have my content calendar on Microsoft OneNote and my social media schedule calendar on Hootsuite. I dedicate the weekend to work on my site tasks and content then have everything automatically scheduled.

Space

I have the system in place because I need space and time for myself. Believe it or not but I used to be way hectic with life, work and many ideas that it took over my life in a way that seemed to just be super busy. However, I learned the importance of having time for myself where I am doing nothing but relaxing and watching some Ellen on TV and actually having the time to play with my son. It does wonder on the body and mind. I noticed a huge difference in myself.
