A home office is an excellent solution for all the remote workers out there. It will help you use your privilege of not traveling to an office but keep you productive. Also, as a business owner, it can reduce your expenses, provided that you take your business seriously and do not have losses due to poor efficiency. You have probably noticed that the emphasis is on productivity. You can achieve it by having perfect conditions and here is how.

Look for peace and quiet

One of the basic things you need in order to be productive is an opportunity to focus. You will only be able to do this if you have no outside distractions. A home office can be tricky when it comes to this. It may be difficult to find the spot where you will not be disturbed by your children or your other family members and the noise they make. This is why your office should be detached from the rooms most commonly used in the house.

Light

Another basic condition for creating a productive working environment is lighting. If the space you have chosen to remodel, does not have enough light, you need to work on that. Natural light is always the first choice. Install another window or a light tube. If your current situation or the structure of the room does not allow it, go with light fixtures. Use white LED lights as they do an excellent job enhancing the natural light. Make sure that the areas where you spend the most time e.g. your desk, get a lot of light. If you use a computer a lot, the white glare from the screen will not be as bothersome if the room is well lit.

The colors

You need the colors that both relax you and energize you. If you have created a visual brand for your business, that set of colors could do the trick. Use neutral hues as a base and to achieve the sense of stability and relaxing environment. Use the colors of your business to create playful accents. Not all of the color needs to be on the walls. Some of the accents can come from the rug, window treatments, and decorative items throughout the room. If your office is of a reasonable size, to say average, it may feel a little empty with blank walls. You can use wall art to make them more vivid.

The chair

We have already mentioned several pieces of furniture, but here we will focus on the essential one which is your chair. The chair is meant to be comfortable and provide good posture without much effort. When shopping for an office chair, try each one you like and make sure it supports your back the way you need it. For example, you may need more support in the lower-back area than you need it in the middle and vice versa.

The desk

The desk should respect the scale of the room and be functional. A small room with a large desk can appear cluttered. You could also risk that the rest of the furniture does not match due to the difference in scale. Also, if you are remodeling a niche or a corner, rather than an entire room, your best choice is a custom-made desk. Measure everything twice before you have one made. Make sure that it fits, that it can accommodate the chair, the computer and the arm space you need.

The storage

Make shelves which can hold your equipment, files, and supplies. It is a shelf, so at the same time, it can hold photo frames and other decorative items. You can use colorful baskets and desk organizers to replace drawers and have everything laid out in your open storage area. DisplayME recommends boards and brochure holders used as narrow shelves, which are perfect for organizing small space. If you need a safe place for some of your files, you can get a rolling drawer cabinet with lockable drawers and place it beneath your desk.
A home office is meant to make you feel comfortable and energized. It should not look too strict, nor too relaxed. The right one will help you zone into the work completely, stay eager and motivated.
