Your flooring is an important feature of any room. It has the power to make your room seem brighter, larger, and cosier, depending on the type that you choose. There are a lot of different types of flooring to consider, and there is a lot that you need to take into consideration when choosing your flooring, so hopefully, this simple guide can help you out a little.
1. Style Of Your Home
The style of your home is sure to have a large impact on the type of flooring that will fit within it, as certain types of flooring won’t suit certain types of homes. For example, you may have absolutely fallen in love with a very specific purple carpet, but if you live in a fairly old home, that still has all of its original features, then your carpet choice might not look quite right.
2. Your Preferences
If you really like the look of a particular flooring material, then why not try to incorporate it into your home? As mentioned above, this may not suit every home, which will probably be a bit of a disappointment, but luckily, there are plenty of types of flooring for you to choose from instead, so I’m sure that you’ll find something that you love.
3. Size Of Room
The size of your room is important for deciding the type of flooring that you want. If your room is smaller or darker than most, then light floors are your best way to go. This is because lighter flooring naturally brightens up a room, which also makes it appear bigger than it actually is. Try out samples of different types of flooring to see how each of them affect the look and feel of your room.
4. Needs Of The Room
As well as style and size, you also need to take the needs of the room into account when choosing flooring and then think practically about the flooring that would meet these needs. For example, your kitchen floor needs to be easy to clean and waterproof, so carpet is out the window. Instead, you may consider luxury vinyl plank, known as LVP. Your bathroom has similar needs, and so people usually opt for tile in there.
5. Colour Of The Room
Much like how your flooring has to match the style of your home, it also has to match the colour scheme of your home. Natural coloured flooring is always a safe bet and doesn’t have to be changed as you change your furniture or repaint your walls, which is why wood flooring is timeless. Other types of flooring can be coloured to match your colour scheme, but then will have to be changed if you redecorate your home.
Choosing the flooring for your home can be a difficult decision, but hopefully, this short guide will help you out a little. Just be sure you order some samples of each of your flooring options before buying enough for the entire room so that you can test it out.
