There are plenty of ways to your wedding invitations and one is making your wedding invitations on Canva. I absolutely love using Canva for all aspects of my blog life and wedding planning. So using Canva for my wedding invitations was a no-brainer.

If you have been following along my wedding planning journey then you would know that it is just one of the ways I made my wedding invitations. I also created a virtual invitation with Greenvelope so I could keep track of both my virtual and in-person wedding guests. Find out more here!

Here is how to make your wedding invitations on Canva.

Step 1. Click the Wedding Template on Canva

If you are new to Canva, to find the templates type “wedding invitations” into the search bar on the homepage. Once you get to the screen you are going to see an entire list of wedding invitations that you will love. Some are free and some are available only if you have the paid version. Honestly, I made mine using the free version of Canva so the choice is really yours.

Step 2. Choose a Design Worthy of being your Wedding Invitation

It can be so overwhelming seeing all the wedding invitations but you will know when you see it. So take the time to find a wedding invitation template that is worthy of being your wedding invitation. You don’t have to keep it that way, the best part is that you can make it your own. I have always loved using Canva because you’ll find something that speaks to you.

Next, Step 3. Choose from a Variety of Fonts.

To me, fonts are just like the icing on the cake, they truly help make your wedding invitations look fantastic. If you are new to Canva, seeing an entire list of fonts might be overwhelming so my tip is to look at the templates and see what fonts you like from them. That is the fastest way to see what fonts you like on a wedding invitation instead of having to test all of them. Here are the fonts I used for mine:
  • Brittany
  • Josefin Sans
  • Bodoni FLF
  • Glacial Indifference
  • Moontime

Step 4. Input your Wedding Details

Your guests are going to need some information so that they can attend your wedding. So once you’ve selected a template, it’s time to make it your own with wedding details. Utilize both the front and back of the wedding card to input your information. Details like:
  • Your Names.
  • Date of your wedding.
  • Venue Address.
  • Time of scheduled events like your wedding ceremony and reception.
  • Upload and slide over images such as your engagement photos as your cover.

Step 5. Add Features that Make Your Card Stand Out

  • A Map – If you decide to add a map, you can place it on the back of the card. Canva makes it easy by entering the address and sliding the map onto the card. It gives your guests a better sense of where your wedding venue is. You can add a small heart on top of the pinned location for an added touch.
  • QR code – I think having a QR code is really cool. When I decided to make my wedding invitations I placed a QR code to the back of my card so that my guests could easily access my wedding registry and wedding website. It is a lot more convenient than typing in the websites onto your invitation since your guest won’t have to type anything into their phones.

Lastly Step 6. Download to Print or Order

Once you have finalized your design, you have the option to download your invitation. Canva provides you with different download formats like PDF, PNG, or JPEG. Of course, choose the format that suits your printing needs at home or you can always send them to get professionally printed.
I decided to order them from Canva because it saved me the trouble of printing them individually. Plus it was one less thing I needed to do on my already long to-do list. Plus from the experience of buying other things like my business cards, I knew it didn’t take long to arrive in the mail either.

Why Canva vs the Other Companies?

I honestly chose Canva because it was the best way to fully customize my wedding invitations. Other websites you can but there isn’t too much freedom to really create and not that many options.
Also, price played a role in my decision as I wasn’t buying a lot of invitations since this is a keepsake for some of my guests therefore it didnt make sense to pay so much at regular companies who make invitations. Plus, I didnt have to wait long for my invitations to arrive.

Cons of using Canva

Since I am always honest in any review, this wouldn’t be any different. My wedding invitations were stunning. The thing I tend to mention often about Canva is that they never have a sale on their products however this time I am not going to say that. Since I have been saying this for some time now, I have noticed nowadays there have been some sales. However, the wedding invitation sale is more directed to those who are purchasing a larger amount of cards.
Lastly, Canva does not offer a sample of your invitation option so if you wanted to look at three different options, you would need to buy one of each. If you want samples sent to you then you will have to use a site like Shutterfly. Not all wedding invitations offer free samples, I do recall having to buy a package of a variety of sample cards.

Final Thoughts

Remember to keep it simple, you don’t want to overwhelm the invitation with too much information or design elements. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your partner, friends or family for their opinions or suggestions because it can’t feel so exhausting doing everything or making all the decisions so lean on others to help.

There is something special about making your wedding invitations on Canva or just making them in general. Whether you are creative with it or make it simple and to the point, you are creating an invitation to the most important day of your life. Not to mention you are saving money on quality wedding invitations too!
