I am so excited to show you how I made this DIY face planter pot. To be honest, I may not be a plant person but this year I am trying to be. I am replacing my black thumb to a green thumb for this spider plant that I named Eliza.
The reason why I decided to paint this planter pot is because I couldn’t find what I was looking for however I found a planter pot that I did love from Amazon. Sometimes when you can’t find it, you have to make it and I loved how it turned out! Here is how I made this:
Step 1 – Choose a Planter Pot
I knew that I wanted a white planter pot however it did take me a while to find one that I loved right away. There was so much to choose from but some we not in the colour I wanted, or it was too expensive. I found my Amazon Basics Fluted Ceramic Planter, 8-inch, White planter pot in the Amazon warehouse section. I arrived the next day without any dents or chips so I basically got a new planter pot without paying full price.
Next, Step 2 – Decide on a Face Design Online
When I was looking for face-designed planter pot, I knew that I wanted a face with eyebrows and closed eyes. Therefore I needed to find one that was already done or create one using Canva. I chose to use Canva to make my own version, they had a few options that matched my DIY Face Planter Pot vision.
I printed it in three different sizes so I could see if it would work on my planter pot. Ultimately I ruled out the two smaller options because the larger one worked better for this planter pot.
Step 3 – Use the Face Design as a Stencil
Once I cut off the eyebrows I was able to use the paper as a stencil with my pencil. I decided not to cut off the eyes fully because I wanted to do lighter eyelashes so I used my scissors on the lining of the eye lashed instead. Basically just the line before the eyelashes because I loved the curve to it.
Step 4 – Touch Ups
Next, I moved the stencil out of the way so that I was able to adjust the lines and add on my eyelashes with a pencil. Using a pencil is such an essential way to make sure you like the design you’re making because you can simply wipe away anything you do not like.
Last Step – Final Touches
Lastly, it was time to use the black Sharpie marker to go over the lines. I originally tried this with gold paint however it didn’t turn out nice so I removed it and decided to use a black sharpie instead. I think it was the best decision because the result came out simple and cute.
Final thoughts
What a simple way to add character to your planter pot. It is no wonder why I named her Eliza. This planter pot has some sass and brings in a little fun to my space. I am absolutely excited to have this spider plant in my home and with the face it looks like luxuous hair! Don’t you love it! I hope to make more of these easy to make DIY face planter pots in the future but the first step is keeping Eliza alive lol.
