I was so honoured to be emailed by Kai Schmittat who was gracious to tell me about a dream or as he calls it a “crazy dream” that he along with Tim Osterbuhr and Friederike Geiken have. However this idea is far from a crazy dream, it is such a brilliant idea! Their idea is to make the most personalized children’s book (I told you it is a brilliant idea!) Today I am excited to announce that Crayon Crunch is launching a Kickstarter campaign to achieve that very dream.
The idea for Crayon Crunch was born when co-founder Friederike Geiken visited her nephew for Christmas. She brought him a personalized book, where the lead character’s name was personalized to match her nephew’s. While everyone in Friederike’s family loved the book, her nephew could not associate himself with the character. There had to be a better way!
Friederike joined forces with Tim Osterbuhr and Kai Schmittat to launch Crayon Crunch. What started out, as a project to create a better book for her nephew quickly became a mission to represent every child in a printed book.
The print picture book is entitled “My Magical Adventure”. This book is a gender-neutral adventure story in an imaginary world. As a writer myself, I enjoy the process of creating characters, now this time anyone and everyone can create and design a character. Let me tell you how this works.
How cool is it, that you can create the main character to look like any child or look like your child! It is hard sometimes to find a character that looks even similar to you… even me, so imagine your child’s face when they see a character that isn’t similar to but actually looks like your child with the same name. I think it is pretty cool! I am sure some of you are like me or of a different race didn’t always have the luxury of having books that look nearly close to what we look like, but now your kids can.
What a great idea! I'm sure my son would love one. Off to check them out.
I am so glad that you think so Sarah! I can't wait to do this for my son too!
This is really new to me. I had no idea that Crayola was doing this. How fun for kids. Thank you for bringing it to the party with us, Shanice. Pinned! Will you come party with us again later today/tomorrow?! Have a great weekend, Rose, FineCraftGuild, organizer of SHARE IT!
Hi Rose, this is not from the company Crayola but from a new company called Crayon Crunch. It is a fun idea for kids and great for friends and family members who have kids as well.
