Today I am going to do a Canva photo book review, as always this is out of my own free will, I promise. I have been using Canva for as long as I could remember, last year in May, I lost my grandpa to a stroke. It was very hard for me as this was my first death within my inner family circle.
Not to mention that I also was millions of miles away so I wasn’t able to attend the funeral in the commonwealth of Dominica because of covid, finances, and traveling with my son and two younger sisters who are all on the autism spectrum would have trouble with the new way of traveling.
Since I wasn’t able to attend, I found a way to contribute. I used Canva to create a slideshow of pictures of him and us and put it with some music. I also used it to make images for the funeral program.
What I did extra was what I wanted to share the most. I decided to take the slideshow and redesigned it to make a photobook as a gift for my grandma. Here is how I created a photo book using Canva:
How to Make a Photo Book on Canva
-
First, I went into my slideshow and clicked the resize button.
Then Canva does its thing and resigns it into the correct sizes needed to create the book. FYI – If you don’t have the full version, you can copy and paste each page to the Canva photo book templates.
2. Second, all I needed to do is make sure every page was in between the recommendations line areas.
Canva has two ways you can do this, one way is by automatically having Canva adjust pages for you or you can do it yourself by following the list of pages they recommend you fix. You may also need to remove an extra page if you have too many pages. If that happens to you, all you need to do is move the images on the last page and rejig a few things.
3. Lastly, it was time to pay.
That’s it. This beautiful Canva photo book is ready to be delivered. I find that their shipping doesn’t take too long and it arrives effortlessly.
Canva Photo Book Review
I was very impressed when it came. Honestly, the book was a little small for the price I paid but it was cheaper than their competitors and everyone loved how it turned out. I guess you can say it was worth the price. It would be nice of them to create some coupons or discount sales from time to time. That is just my opinion though.
It looks exactly like how I made the slideshow and saved me the time of having to recreate this on another platform. To me, it just saved so much time to make sure it was exactly like how I wanted it without having to do everything all over again.
Final Thoughts
I believe that this was the perfect gift for my grandma and she absolutely loved it! Overall, this is a simple way to make a breathtaking photo book on Canva. Of course, this is a version when a slideshow was made already but their easy-to-use templates are what I enjoy the most. Plus, using Canva is free so can choose to use those templates or upgrade for more goodies. You can’t go wrong using Canva.

Hi. Do the pages lay flat? I’m trying to decide between Canva and Shutterfly
Hi Eric, that is a great question. This photo book does not lay flat, it has a curve in the book bound area. I hope that helps with your decision!
Hi,
I was wondering what size you chose, cover type, and finish?
Hi Christine, that is a great questions. The size I chose is 8 × 6 in Hard cover and Gloss finish.
Hi,
I was wondering what cover type/finish option did you go with? I’m still deciding which one might look better
Hi Christine, I am not sure of the name of the cover template I used on Canva but it was a scrapbook-style template. The closest one to mine is Canva’s template, “Scrapbook Grandma’s Brag Photo Book”. Also, I chose an 8 × 6 photo book in a Hardcover and Gloss finish.
I was considering making a photo book on Canva that I could write in. With a blue or black ink pen. Do you think the glossy pages would work for that? Or should I go with a different finish?
Hi Sheryl, I am not sure if an ink pen would work on the glossy pages. I feel that it would rub off therefore you might want to go with a different finish just to be on the safe side.
Can I print the pages myself and bind them.
Hi Bev, yes you can download and print the pages out yourself and bind them. All you would have to do is press the “share” button at the top of the page and press “download”.
