Not ready to buy a home quite yet? I hear you. On the other side of moving in together, you can always consider renting. If renting a place is a better fit for you and it is the right option for you and your partner, then you have scrolled to the right section.

Renting is for couples who aren’t quite set on what city they want to live in, who want to feel out of a different space, or who have finished their lifelong career goals. Similar to buying a place, you still need to make sure your wants and needs are aligned and that both of you are on the same page before searching for a place.

Stress-free Packing for Moving in

Speaking about moving, there is another key piece to moving in together and that is the actual moving in part. There is a way to reduce stress and that is finding the best packing systems ahead of time to make moving less strenuous on the both of you. I am all about planning ahead in order to prevent stress and take advantage of less chaos! Here are a few tips:

1. Make a checklist of your items!

List all the things you need for your move, for example, purchasing boxes and tape. Include all the rooms that still need to be packed. Add a list of what you need to do before and after moving.

2. Colour code boxes and rooms.

Set colour-coding systems for each room, such as blue for the bathroom. You can also tape the box with the corresponding room colour. By giving each room of your new home a designated colour with tape or even a sign on the door, it makes it super easy for your movers to put boxes in those areas.

3. Label boxes by room and sub-section.

Keep your labelling simple with the name of where it will go but with a hint of where it should go. For example, for the bathroom, write “Bathroom Shower Items” or “Bathroom Under the Sink”. It will make it easier to unpack in the new home.

4. Create an Open First Box.

To reduce the stress of having to open many boxes in order to find something. You can create an open first box filled with your essentials with a few cooking tools, utensils, bathroom items, and hardware tools.
