I bet you have a ton of questions when it comes to your wedding cake. We are going to go through a few of them to get you on the right track such as should flowers be on your wedding cake, cupcakes vs traditional cakes, buttercream and more. I was inspired to get down to what most couples are thinking about during this time, this is why we are talking about 8 Surefire Ways To Get The Best Wedding Cake. Let’s get started!
Flowers on Wedding Cake
Do you have flowers on a wedding cake? Yay or nay? Of course, I am going to say, my favourite line first and that it is “it is up to you!“.
Yes, my dears, you can have flowers on your cake. You can have whatever your heart desires but remember that real flowers can have pesticides on it so it is something you need to be aware of when thinking about cakes. I know right, so you have to be extremely careful when having flowers on or near your cake because you don’t want to be responsible for pesticides leaking in your cake that you are serving to your guests.
How to avoid this? Find out if your florist knows if your flowers are sprayed. If they don’t know, and this does happen, then the next thing to find out how to keep it safe. If you are doing this yourself, then you should look for fresh florals that are organic and pesticide-free. You need to wash the flowers with cold water gently. Why? Because you are aiming to get rid of any dirt or bugs that may be lingering in the petals. Then cut on an angle and apply floral tape onto it.
Simply Sugar Flowers
 Artificial Greenery or Flowers
Believe it or not, artificial flowers could cost you more for your wedding cake because prices are usually by the stem. So, as much as you think that you are saving money, you are actually not. Plus, it doesn’t always look as beautiful compared to sugar flowers or real flowers. It is something that is noticeable to your guests. But, don’t rule them out completely, there are many imitation flowers that look identical but those are at a higher price.

Flavours
You got to love what you eat and taste before you buy. This is important and by far the only thing you need to focus on because it is what you remember most. Think about it, when you dive your fork in and give the cake a taste and it tastes bad. It is going to be the thing you remember most. Not the design. It is best to remember the taste, you don’t want your guests to only remember they ate a bad cake.
I am in love with Zola’s article – 112 Wedding Cake Ideas For Every Season right now. They share some fantastic flavour ideas that will make your mouth water. So, if you are looking for some inspiration check out that article and you will be overfull with ideas. Here is just a slice of what they have to offer:
Cakes vs Cupcakes
Are you having a debate on if you should have cupcakes over having a traditional cake? Cupcakes are great! What makes them not as amazing as a cake is that you can’t get enough flavour from a cupcake. If you don’t eat it right, then you miss the cake experience. Plus, it can get a little messy when you are stuffing your face with a cupcake.
Plus, you can play more with the flavour with a slice of cake. Add a little this and that. Cupcakes limits what you can do. If cupcakes still catch your interest for your wedding, then how about you use it as a favour for your guests to take home at the end of the night or even try cake bites to hand out on the dance floor.

Is it okay to have your cake but also have a sheet cake in the back?
It is defiantly okay especially if you have a small cake budget but large wedding guest amount. The more guests you have the more tiers your baker will have to make. It can get costly. So, having a sheet cake in the back lowers the bill. You just need to cut the cake as you usually would.
However, you need to think about the proportion of the cake you are cutting into. If you have a small wedding, you can have your cake look larger for photos by adding a fake tier. It makes a huge difference in your photos. Think about your height as well. Also, try to remember which tier is the fake tier so that you don’t accidentally cut into it. Oh and save the top tier for a special occasion like your anniversary or when you come back from your honeymoon.
Best Way to Coordinate Cake Selections with Out of State Vendors
Taste is the most important. You could risk someone mailing it but it won’t taste the same. What you will need to do is try to make an effort to see them in their state. If you can’t get there for some reason then you need to send someone to taste it on your behalf. It is all about the flavour.
Don’t be afraid to email or video calling to communicate over calling on the phone. Phone calls are nice but remember randomly calling them without a set time can end up to you playing phone tag plus their hands are going to be full during work hours so they won’t always be able to get the phone. Set a time and then make arrangements on what is the best way to talk. I recommend video calling because it makes it more personable when you both can see each other’s faces when talking.
