The big day is coming! Maybe you have weeks, months, or even a year to go, but in any event, you’re wondering what you can be doing now to have picture-perfect skin when you walk down the aisle. Well, there’s good news: No matter how long you have left until you tie the knot, you can apply these 5 tips to have beautiful, clear skin for your wedding.
1. A Regular, Natural Skin Care Routine
The first thing you can begin doing immediately (if you’re not already doing it) is to develop a twice-daily skin care routine that includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing, plus serums and treatments if you like.
Make sure to use natural, moisturizing cleansers and products like the Calm Facial Bar so you don’t damage or irritate your skin. Use your hands and water to wash your face gently every morning and night, and pat dry with a towel.
2. Eat Superfoods for Your Skin
The second tip to get your skin wedding-ready is lots of fun: EATING!
Eat lots of fresh whole fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, particularly those that are high in vitamins C and E for soft, supple skin. You can get anti-aging antioxidants into your diet by eating berries and drinking green tea.
Dark chocolate also contains antioxidants, but avoid chocolates with refined sugar and milk powders, since refined and processed oils, dairy, and sugar can inflame your skin and lead to breakouts. Who wants unsightly pimples in their wedding photos? If you do still get breakouts, use blotting paper to soak up the excess oil without stripping the skin.
Include essential fatty acids in your diet to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier and moisturize from the inside, with avocados, flax seeds, chia seeds, and wild-caught fish. Hydration is the final key to unlocking healthy, glowing skin, so drink plenty of filtered water every day!
3. Protect Yourself from Sunburn
This third tip, like the first two, is important for your skin all the time, and especially when you’re taking extra care to maintain a beautiful complexion: Avoid sunburn!
UVA rays from the sun accelerate aging (“A” for aging), and UVB rays cause burns (“B” for burn). Imagine having all eyes on you as you glide around in your magnificent wedding dress with bikini-shaped lines all over your back. Even worse, imagine trying to enjoy a honeymoon when your skin is in physical pain. Not worth it!
Take measures every single day to protect your skin, wearing long clothing, a hat, UV-proof sunglasses, and a non-toxic sunscreen. Give up the tan completely in the months leading up to your wedding. Or, if you can’t bear that, make sure to tan carefully, gradually, and evenly.
On your wedding day itself, remember to wear sunscreen if you’ll be outdoors so that you can enjoy your garden or beachfront photo shoot without paying for it later, and so that you won’t spend your wedding night burned and tired.
4. Monthly Facials
Now we’re getting into the nitty-gritty of special skin care preparation, but these little details add up to a lot of difference on your big day.
As soon as you can, start having monthly facials for a deep cleanse and intense moisture therapy that’s appropriate for your skin type. It’s important to have a process like extraction done professionally to remove dirt and grime from within the pores, as home-based treatments can damage your skin and make a mess of your beautiful face!
5. Soften Your High-Flex Areas with Salt Scrubs
The final tip is to soften up high-flex areas of your skin, like elbows, knees, and knuckles, with mineral salt baths and daily moisturizer, so that they’ll be lovely and smooth for your wedding. It’s so easy to forget your hard-working flexible parts when so much of skin care’s emphasis is on your face, but giving these areas some extra love will be well worth the effort because they’ll feel so good on your big day. And ask about elbow exfoliation when you go in for your next facial.
Enjoy the process of getting your skin ready for your special day, and congratulations!
