A small space should not stop you from making your house look big or organized and neat. In fact, you should take advantage of the small space to come up with DIY ideas to make it more appealing. There are many ways you can maximally utilize your small space and even free up some areas in your house.
Â
1. Â Â Think of double duty solutions
Â
Space is limited, so how best can you utilize it to make sure everything is fitted? This is where double duty furnishings come in handy. Make the most of rooms by adding furnishings that carry out double duties. For instance, instead of couches, use futons or sofa beds, then your living room can also be used as a guest room. Alternatively, you can use wall beds which are affordable and quiet convenient e.g. Murphy Beds, and the good thing is that they can be fitted in most house spaces. Some furniture can also be used as storage spaces. For complete effectiveness, customize your rooms in such a way that they can be used for more than one function efficiently and with ease.
Â
2. Â Â Make use of your vertical space
Â
Is there empty space in your closet on top of your clothes rack, or on top kitchen shelves or above your door that is not in use? This is underutilized space that can be used for storage purposes. Let bookshelves and cabinets go all the way up to the ceiling. It doesn’t have to be used for storage, you can use the space to make your house look bigger. For instance, paint or add vertical wallpaper stripes and wall paneling on this space to create this kind of illusion. Look for inspiration ideas on how to use the idle wall spaces above.
Â
3. Â Â Use Less furniture
Â
Some people prefer using pint-size furniture then end up using many of them or even more accessories for decoration. The end result is congested space with lots of clutter. So, with smaller spaces, the trick is to use bigger furniture and this way, you end up using less. When accessorizing, bigger pieces will make your small space look bigger. However, don’t use extremely big ones that will take up most of your space. If your home can be customized, don’t be afraid to use a few DIY ideas and inspirations to design it. You will be able to take control of your furniture’s size, how you want it to appear and where to fit.
Â
4.   Don’t forget the clutter
Â
Do you need that extra table in the living room? Or the boxes stuffed with items from college in your garage? Clutter is anything that you own that you don’t need. You may want to continue keeping stuff so bad but always ask yourself if you actually need it. Clutter uses up a lot of space that could instead be used for other important things. Also, it will make your already small space feel smaller. Getting rid of clutter is the best tip to maximizing space.
