One of my achievable goals for this year is to have a movie night with my son. It’s the time we unwind and watch a movie together. I find that my time is always consumed with something and this year I want to break the habit. I really want to unplug with my son more and just spend time together. This benefits both of us in the end plus he really enjoys this time together and so do I. I try to aim this for either a Friday night or Saturday night so that we don’t have to worry about school or work the next day. I thought I would share four essentials for a perfect & simple family movie night.
1. Bath & PJs
I can’t do anything until we are ready for the movie occasion. That means we both need our baths. It gets our bodies into a relaxing atmosphere plus my lavender body cream helps get us to relax too. Next, with baths, we need to have our PJs on. It’s a dress code essential in order to attend our movie night. We all have those go-to PJ sets that we just love to death!
2. Snacks
To be honest, we don’t always have snacks for our movie nights because it really depends on what time we start our movie. If it is early then we have snacks like chips and popcorn. I like to add our favourite fruits as well to give our selection some balance, however, if we are closer to bedtime we make sure to have our dinner and dessert prior. When our stomachs are full and satisfied then there is no need for snacks.
3. Get Comfy
It’s all for one on my bed because it has the most space and the most pillows. Plus, it is my favourite spot in my home. We curl up in blankets, wear our furry socks and cuddle up to my pillows. We tend to have at least one invited stuffy (stuff animal) invited to our event as well. It is my son’s little friend name Caillou. You know that he will always be invited unless there is a new stuffy of the day.
4. Movie
It is Disney or Pixar movies all the way. Since my Netflix doesn’t work on my TV, I get creative by recording movies I see play on the tv such as Shrek, Cars and Inside Out. Every Friday or even some Saturdays Disney channel, YTV, as well as Family Channel, plays a movie and I am there to record them for the next movie night.
Final Thoughts
If we haven’t fallen asleep by now then my son has. Once the movie is done watching us sleep, we are really ready to get to bed. We end the end with me putting my son back into his bunk bed and turning off the TV. Family movie nights are a great bonding time. There are many ways to make your movie night special for your family. What your kids will remember most is the time they spent with you.
