Hey friends! Want to know 3 quick professional organizing tips that I use in my life? I bet you do!
Before we get started I wanted to say a quick hello. To those who are new to my blog, welcome! If you’ve been following me here for a while, I’m sure there’s a ton about my life you already know, but I like to take some time every now and again to (re)introduce myself. My name is Shanice Bannis. I am an organizing expert. I help busy moms and women take control of their household by removing clutter, mastering their time & simplifying their lives.
I’m going to share 3 things that hardly anyone knows (yes, I still have a few secrets!) but this time, in a form of quick organizing tips I use in my life. Ready? Let’s get started!
#1 – The Most Problematic Space in my Home Is My Entryway
Yes, you heard that correctly, my entryway has always been a problem zone. If you don’t know, I live in an apartment with my son, my mom and my three younger tween/teenage siblings. So it is jam-packed over here. With everyone here, you can imagine that there are many shoes, backpacks, jackets and seasonal accessories.
How did I solve this problem? I tried different things. When it still didn’t work, I tried something else.
What I realized was that I needed to look at our daily life routine as a foundation. As a result, I ended up realizing we needed awesome shoe cabinets from IKEA, we needed to put up backpack hooks in another location and I even created entry closet shoe hooks for extra storage. Funny enough, the entry closet hooks I created ended up being my most popular project on HomeTalk.
#2 – My Favourite Small Organizing Project is DVDs.
If you are looking at me side-eye right now, I don’t blame you. I am well aware that everyone has a PVR or streaming their shows and movies. I am not a cavewoman. I do that as well but I also collect DVDs of my most favourite shows or movies.
So when Fast and Furious drops another brilliant movie that I already watched in the theatres twice, I get the DVD, cut the cover image in a square and place it in my large CD case holder along with the DVD. It holds way more than a typical shelf, it saves me so much space on my shelves for other things and the case is nice looking.
This is also another great addition to your organizing tips if you have video gamers in your life. Believe me, it is a space saver! If you want to give this a try, check out this post – Declutter Your DVDs.
#3 – I Declutter Regularly
If you walk into my bedroom you will always see a blue or black large bag with random things inside ready for donation. It is mostly clothing or toys from my son. I like to keep a bag nearby for those moments when my son or I try on clothing that we no longer like or it no longer fits us. It’s been the easiest for us to just toss it into the bag instead of putting it right back into our closets or drawers. It keeps the cycle going and when the bag is full, we bring it to get donated.
- Declutter regularly and not just seasonally. (have a bag or basket nearby)
- Choose one room/space
- Know when to let go
- Out with all that does not need to be there. (get rid of everything you do not use, or fit you or like.)
- Focus on Solutions
