How to Be Energy Waste Conscious

How to Be Energy Waste Conscious | City of Creative Dreams

It is no surprise that we waste energy. It is something we got accustomed to. Yes, energy waste in homes is more than clutter, recycling, and trash. So, how can we reduce energy waste? How to be energy waste conscious in our day to day lives? I thought it would be best to share a few wasting energy facts that we all have done and ways to remove that habit from our homes.

Leaving the Lights On

I have to say that this one everyone has this habit once in a while. We leave the lights on when we leave a room or go somewhere. Most people actually leave the lights on when they travel to so that they don’t have intruders. However, you are stealing your own energy and paying for it in your electricity bill when you leave the lights on for no reason at all. If you are not in a room, turn it off. There is a huge difference between rushing to get something quickly or going away for a whole weekend.

Wrong Light Bulbs

There is a reason why we are being pushed in the direction of energy saving bulbs. It saves you money! There is no wonder why people go bananas when there is a sale. I mean people truly go crazy for these bulbs. Especially when they have their 99 cent sales at Canadian Tire. Not only does it save your wallet these energy-efficient bulbs and dimmers use 25-80% less energy. Pretty awesome if I say so myself.

Plug Hogger

This one is for people like me who have everything plugged regardless of if we are using it. In one plug strip, is my TV, cable box, Wii, and my fan plug. I am afraid to tell you about the other power strip I have in my room. I used to think that if I am not using it then it is fine to have plugged in however that is not the case. Even when we aren’t using those chargers that are plugged in you are still using energy. Therefore, unplug when it is done and also consider charging after 8 pm. Some companies give discounts if you use energy after that time.

Fridge Gazing

What should I eat? That is the number one question we have when we look into our fridge. It can be a daunting question because now you have to stare into your fridge to come up with a solution to your hungry tummy just by the ingredients that are on your shelves. However, all that time it took you to do that is wasting energy. Best way to stop wasting is open the door to see what you have then come up with what to make. Once you have decided on what you want to eat then you can open the fridge to create it.

Final Thoughts

I took a pledge at the green living expo with Greenpeace, this year to reduce my plastic in my home and life. I do this anyways but thought to pledge it loud and proud (aka signing my name) really makes it concrete. This is by no means a sponsored post but a company that I think is on the right track to make a difference. Did you know? Every year, up to 12.7 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans. That’s the equivalent of a truckload every minute! Greenpeace is campaigning to stop this, and I’ve pledged to help out in any way I can. Will you join me? Here’s the link.
