Travelling for long hours doesn’t have to be tedious. While many people enjoy looking at the beautiful scenery while taking a trip, others would do nothing but sit and wait for the drive to be over. From talking to other passengers, to reading a book and watching a movie, there’s a myriad of interesting activities that will help you enjoy your travel, and feel like you’ve reached your destination in the blink of an eye.
Read a book
Reading is one of the best ways to make your time on a train, airplane or in a car fly by. So, bring your favourite book with you and you will feel like the trip took no time at all. Whether you enjoy poetry, a novel or prefer short stories, a good book is one of the best companions on your trip.
Write a journal
Writing a diary was many teenagers’ favorite hobby, so why not do it again while you travel? Bring a notebook, or use your laptop and start writing about all the interesting encounters you’ve had, describe beautiful scenery, or whatever you find thrilling about your travel. It’ll be a great thing to go back to in the years to come and help you reminisce about your exciting trips.
Play games
It’s always a good time to play board games, so make sure you don’t forget to bring your favorites on a trip. Whether you opt for cards, Scrabble, Monopoly or Uno, your drive or a flight will seem much shorter in the end if you immerse yourself into these games.
Watch a movie
If you don’t like to watch the scenery all that much or you are traveling at night, a good movie is just the right thing to keep you entertained during the travel. Bring your portable DVD player and play some of your favorite movies or TV shows, and it’ll seem as if you’ve traveled for just a couple of hours, instead of an entire night.
Do crosswords
If you’re traveling on your own, and you haven’t found any passengers who’d like to join you in playing board games, worry not, because there’s a solution for this problem too. Sudoku, crosswords, and puzzles will help you exercise your brain even if you don’t have company.
Listen to music
Aside from sleeping and reading a book, listening to music is one of the best ways to cut your travel time short. So, stock your phone or iPod with your favorite music and just sit back and relax. For the best experience, make sure you buy some quality noise canceling headphones, so you can isolate yourself from all the racket from the other passengers and enjoy your favorite tunes during the whole trip.
Be creative
Sometimes long travels are the only time you can dedicate yourself to your hobby. So, if you like to draw, sketch or color, this is a perfect time. Bring your pad, or buy an adult coloring book and let your imagination run wild. What’s more, with a variety of apps on your gadget, you can find a few that offer adult coloring books, so you don’t have to spend a dime, and still have a great time on the road.
Sleep
While some people can’t sleep anywhere but in their bed, others find the bumpiness of the road perfect for dozing off. Therefore, if you’re one of the latter group, be sure to bring sleeping essentials with you and make a trip nap even more comfortable. With a blanket, a traveling pillow and a sleep mask to protect you from the lighting, you’ll sleep like a baby and won’t even notice how long the voyage was.
Long travels can be quite draining, but you can do plenty to make them as thrilling as possible. Bring your favorite book, stock your iPod with music, play games, watch a movie, write a journal, talk to other passengers, or sleep, and your journey will end in the blink of an eye.
