On the Go PECS Visual Aids

On the Go PECS Visual Aids | City of Creative Dreams

One of my friends uses PECS with her son so I thought I would try it out with my son since I get the meltdowns and tantrums like any other parent who has a three-year-old. It is never easy to deal with so why not give other things a try to reduce it. My son likes things to be in a certain way, similar to me. We like a routine so I created this on the go visual aid PECS cards to help him know what is going to happen when we are going out.

I got these PECS from searching it online customised it using MS Word and printed it out. Then used the self-laminating sheets that I bought for a $2.00 at Dollarama to keep it protected.

Once the laminating process was done it is time to cut. Since this is a self-laminating sheets have only one adhesive side, it leaves the other side open so I have to use tape on each side to keep it together. These laminating sheets are great when it comes to having an one sheet in tack but once you cut it looses its purpose, unfortunately, however, I still like to use it.

Now it is time for the finishing touches. I made hole punches at the corner of the cards and then slid a key ring on. It is small enough to fit in a purse when you are on the go and easy to flip through.

This will not only help him know what is happening throughout the day but it can also remind him when not to do something as well. For example, if we are in a library and want to tell him to stop yelling or running I can show him one of the photos and grab his attention. I love having this and it has been working out so far. Hope he can keep it up!
