So food looks pretty, we see it, we know it. Our eyes are the sole captain of navigating our minds and hearts. Those bright colours sucking you into buying these claimed sweet treats that are not harmful at all to you. Then buttering you up with affordable prices that just seals the deal of getting that product from the shelf to your cart, on its way to your home from the back of your trunk and into your stomach.
Companies make it easy to get this colour to get into you and your children’s bodies. Believe me, I was no stranger to the act. Artificial colours were not even on my radar. It wasn’t until I got pregnant that I really thought about my health and the health of my son more seriously. I know that the red artificial colours (Red NO 40) aka food dye do not agree with me. This means bye-bye to the cherry flavoured Slurpee in the summer. Whenever I have it, it sure did not make me feel good and I wanted to know why.
After doing some research for myself, I realized, apart from the reaction it gives me in my throat, I was ingesting something that was not good for me or my son.
1. No Nutritional Benefit
There is nowhere that says this will give you strong bones or enhances you with vitamins in any way. No doctor of mine or in the history of the world ever said “Did you have your bowl of Artificial colours today?” or “We noticed in your results that you are significantly low on red number 40 food dye.” because this is not a necessary need for our bodies.
2. Ingredients
Which brings me to, what is in food dyes? Do they even have ingredients? The primary ingredients in artificial colours and food dyes are chemicals. Don’t be too surprised, we just learned that it has no nutritional benefits so of course, it is going to have something that is of the opposite. They are made in a lab with this chemical, in particular, called petroleum which used in the same gasoline and diesel to fuel your car. Crazy!
3. Link to Child Behavioral Problems
It’s proven in the pudding. Research has shown that kids behavioural problems hyperactive and inattentive were greatly reduced when food colouring and artificial colours were wiped out of their diets. My mom noticed the same thing with me when I was younger and I noticed this as well as a parent. My child simply changes when these are added to a meal or snack. It is a fact. Without it is simply better.
4. Sole Reason to Boost Pay
Companies’ main goal in life is to get paid and to get paid the most without paying a lot. Chemicals are cheaper than natural. So this dye they use is purely for paint. Instead of painting a bedroom in your home, companies are painting your food. Yes, it may look bright and pretty but is the brightness of your food more important than the quality of your health?
5. Banned in other countries.
Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Â Norway, Sweden, Spain, and Switzerland to name a few all banned artificial colours. If you noticed candy differences even in the just the colour alone, it is all more naturally dyed aka less bright. If other countries were to go as far as to ban it then that alone should be a warning sign. They noticed the value of getting rid of it and yet they still continue to make money.
I am no professional by far, just a mom who cares about the well-being of my family and myself just like you. I have learned to take the lead of asking questions, looking for the reasons why things are the way it is instead of following the crowd in which companies want. Those companies don’t care about you, only your money so it is up to us to take care of ourselves. Learning about these things has helped me out to avoid potential harms and can for you too.
I hope you have some time, I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment to say how much you enjoyed my post or even say hi, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram page or even subscribe. I will do the same! Have a wonderfully creative week!

Your welcome, Irene! I am happy you enjoyed this post of mine.
Nice post! I have always been wary of artificial colors in food and drink
Thank you for this list…I was aware of most of them, but not of the fact that it was linked to Child Behavioral Problems…that alone should get it banned
I avoid them like the plague that they are.
